Requirements
  • A high school diploma is required.
  • Ability to speak clearly and be understood via radio and phone communication.
  • Ability to read comprehensively and apply written and verbal directives.
  • Normal hearing is required for telephone and radio communication, audible alarms, and monitoring police, fire, and emergency medical services radio traffic.
  • Strong command of the English language.
  • Ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor during stressful or critical situations.
  • Ability to communicate department and University policies and procedures professionally.
  • Strong computer skills, including solid experience with Microsoft Office products.
  • Comfort with technical equipment including radios, scanners, electronic access control, fire panels, and personal-computer-based programs.
  • Ability to work varying shifts as required by departmental needs.
  • Ability to perform the essential functions with or without reasonable accommodations.
  • Employment is contingent upon completing a pre-employment drug test with satisfactory results.
Responsibilities
  • Answer telephone calls, walk-up inquiries, and requests for service.
  • Gather information to assess situations, determine the proper response, and communicate necessary information to responding officers.
  • Communicate with 911 personnel to request police, fire, and medical emergency assistance for campus.
  • Initiate emergency response procedures and handle emergencies according to department procedures.
  • Communicate with Public Safety and Facilities Management personnel by phone, radio, and in person to resolve service calls and emergencies.
  • Operate computer-based security systems, including video security, access control and alarm systems, emergency broadcast systems, fire alarm monitoring, 911 call-alert software, incident report databases, and dispatch call databases.
  • Use security-system capabilities to monitor activity, respond to and manage emergencies, and collect information for routine and emergency needs.
  • Issue parking permits and University identification cards and maintain related files and databases.
  • Enter data in the University’s student and employee data system and use it to obtain information for routine and emergency purposes.
  • Prepare and accurately enter incident reports and work orders and electronically distribute reports according to department procedures.
  • Interact calmly, professionally, and cordially with students, staff, faculty, and campus visitors.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with campus personnel and local emergency responders.
  • Maintain an accurate daily log of events.
  • Perform occasional light administrative tasks.
  • Support continuous improvement and the University’s mission, vision, and values.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
