Requirements
  • RDMS certification through the American Registry for Diagnostic Medical Sonography is required.
  • Appropriate specialty credentialing in Abdomen, Breast, and/or Obstetrics and Gynecology is required depending on the services provided.
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience performing the required ultrasound and vascular studies is required.
  • English language proficiency, spoken and written, is required.
  • Basic Life Support certification from the American Heart Association is required.
  • Completion of Veterans Affairs-required training and credentialing is required.
  • Ongoing continuing education and competency verification are required.
  • A background check, immunizations, tuberculosis testing, and Veterans Affairs onboarding clearance are required.
  • Candidates must be able to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist, lift up to 20 pounds, carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance, and push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Prepare patients for imaging procedures and explain examinations.
  • Perform diagnostic imaging studies according to departmental protocols.
  • Operate imaging equipment and ensure image quality.
  • Position patients properly and maintain radiation safety standards.
  • Monitor patients during examinations and identify changes requiring physician notification.
  • Prepare contrast agents and administer imaging-related medications when authorized.
  • Evaluate studies for quality and repeat imaging when appropriate.
  • Upload and manage images within Picture Archiving and Communication Systems and Veterans Affairs systems.
  • Maintain accurate patient documentation.
  • Clean and disinfect equipment and work areas.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and report malfunctions.
  • Follow infection control, patient safety, and radiation safety protocols.
  • Participate in quality improvement activities and staff meetings.
  • Document delays and incomplete studies in the Computerized Patient Record System.
  • Perform ultrasound examinations of the abdomen, retroperitoneum, small parts, obstetrics and gynecology, male pelvis, breast sonography, vascular imaging, and breast biopsies.
