Graduation from a recognized college or university with a bachelor's degree in Structural Engineering or a related field; up to two years of the educational requirement may be substituted by additional qualifying experience on a year-for-year basis.
Ten years of full-time paid professional experience in structural engineering planning, design, and construction of educational facilities.
Knowledge of architecture and structural engineering practices applied to repairs, modernizations, and new construction of K–12 school buildings.
Experience preparing architectural and structural engineering specifications and related contract documents.
Knowledge of state and local building codes and construction industry standards applied to school construction, including the California Building Code, Cal Green Energy Code, Occupational Safety and Health Administration standards, American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers standards, and American Society for Testing and Materials standards.
Knowledge of architectural and structural engineering systems, building materials, and building costs.
Knowledge of Division of the State Architect and California Department of Education requirements.
Knowledge of Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, Collaborative for High Performance Schools, and other sustainability requirements.
Knowledge of commissioning processes and documentation requirements.
Ability to perform quality assurance/quality control, constructability, and peer reviews of District projects in design and construction.
Ability to prepare and review structural standards and specifications for school buildings and other structures.
Ability to provide structural technical review and advice on proposed product substitutions, deviations from District standards, and technical questions from Owner Authorized Representatives, inspectors, Design Managers, and architecture and engineering teams.
Ability to sustain attention to complex specifications and provide clear, detailed comments.
Ability to write clear, concise reports and technical descriptions for District engineering standards and project reviews.
Ability to work effectively with commissioned architects and engineers, District personnel, consultant staff, and representatives of public agencies.
Effective verbal and written communication skills.
Responsibilities
Perform technical reviews of proposed structural plans and specifications submitted by District personnel, consultant staff, or commissioned architects and engineers for construction projects.
Provide review comments regarding adherence to District standards, quality of structural design development and documentation, coordination with other disciplines, and other technical issues as required.
Provide comments, lessons learned, and research to support development and maintenance of the District’s Design Guidelines, including the School Design Guide, Educational Specifications, Guide Technical Specifications, and Standard Technical Drawings for the Facilities Services Division.
Provide comments and lessons learned to update and maintain District policies and guides for educational facility design and/or District construction structural specifications, ensuring conformance to building codes and safety requirements and improving construction, maintenance, and operational quality and economy.
Coordinate activities with other units of Design and A/E Technical Support and other District organizations.
Perform quality assurance/quality control, constructability, and peer reviews.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job Description
Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

Minimum Qualifications:
