Requirements
  • A high school diploma or General Education Development (GED) certification and six months of medical-assistance work experience, or enrollment in a certified Medical Assistant program or certification from a valid educational institute.
  • A valid driver license is required at the time of application, and a valid Arizona driver license is required at the time of appointment.
  • Documented completion of a recognized Medical Assistant course or proof of current enrollment in such a program from an accredited academic institution or recognized vocational training provider.
  • Current Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification is required on the date of appointment.
  • The employee must provide transportation between facility locations.
  • The position requires post-offer proof of immunization or tuberculosis screening, and may require a physical examination, drug screen, or respirator fit test.
  • The successful candidate is subject to a 39-month Department of Transportation Motor Vehicle Record review.
  • The candidate must be able to perform the stated physical and sensory duties, including fine-motor use of computer and healthcare equipment, close-range observation, accurate information exchange, and occasional movement of equipment weighing up to 25 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Clean, disinfect, and organize the clinic and equipment while ensuring activities comply with quality assurance, risk management, safety, and infection control procedures.
  • Triage patients, take vital-sign readings, draw blood samples, perform Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived tests, and assist patients with mandatory information and consent forms before consultation and examination by the registered nurse case manager.
  • Assist case managers with patient examinations, medical procedures, and treatment, including dispensing medication and providing information about tuberculosis treatment and prevention.
  • Perform daily checks of the tuberculosis air-monitoring system, room temperatures, and laboratory and medication refrigerator temperatures.
  • Maintain patients’ medical charts and files; arrange collection and delivery of laboratory samples and patient medication; monitor and record medication inventories; schedule consultations, X-rays, and routine tuberculosis-related tests; and register patients with emocha Health and Straight Talk Prevention Services.
Desired Qualifications
  • Completion of a Medical Assistant course.
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic performing administrative or front-office tasks using an electronic medical record, telephone and interpreter services, patient registration and scheduling, direct patient communication, coordination with medical entities, appointment follow-up, and records retrieval.
  • Experience in an outpatient clinic performing direct patient-care tasks, collecting laboratory specimens, ordering and processing diagnostic tests, quality-assurance testing and monitoring, laboratory draws, electrocardiograms, test-result reconciliation, procedure preparation, vital-sign measurement, inventory management, medical-equipment use and maintenance, Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments-waived testing, and personal protective equipment use.
