Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the assigned tour of duty in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local standards, guidelines, and regulations.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing activities.
  • Develop, maintain, and update written policies and procedures governing the nursing service department.
  • Ensure that nursing service personnel comply with the Nursing Service Procedures Manual and their respective job descriptions.
  • Prepare written and oral reports and recommendations concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of residents' care.
  • Participate in the facility's nursing-service quality-assurance program and facility surveys conducted by authorized government agencies.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist in planning nursing services for discharge.
  • Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan departmental services, programs, and activities.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents and complete required accident and incident reports.
  • Attend facility committee meetings and prepare reports for committees, including Infection Control, Policy Advisory, Pharmaceutical, Quality Assessment, and Care Plan committees.
  • Ensure adequate licensed nurses and certified nursing assistants are available for each shift.
  • Develop work assignments and delegate authority, responsibility, and accountability to charge nurses.
  • Make daily rounds, monitor absenteeism, review complaints and grievances, and report staffing or operational issues to the Director.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and recommend dismissals or transfers to the Director.
  • Provide and oversee direct nursing care, including assessments, care plans, medication administration, treatments, resident monitoring, and documentation.
  • Start intravenous lines, obtain specimens for laboratory testing, and take vital signs as necessary.
  • Consult with residents, families, and physicians regarding care, treatment, rehabilitation, and changes in resident condition.
  • Monitor medication passes, treatment schedules, medication cards, and compliance with medication procedures.
  • Participate in staff development, in-service training, clinical supervision, and continuing education programs.
  • Implement safety, sanitation, infection-control, hand-hygiene, personal-protective-equipment, fire-safety, and disaster-preparedness procedures.
  • Maintain adequate medication, medical supply, and equipment stock levels and help implement preventive-maintenance and safe-equipment procedures.
  • Participate in developing resident assessments and written plans of care, review care plans and nursing notes, and assist with the Minimum Data Set process.
  • Recommend nursing-service equipment needs and report suspected fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.
  • Protect resident health information and facility information-system credentials and report suspected unauthorized access.

PACS Group acquires Alaska care facility, plans 150-bed skilled nursing centre by 2028

PACS Group has acquired Ridgeway Senior Living, a post-acute care facility in Anchorage, Alaska, marking its fourth property in the state. PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. He previously held CFO roles at Capital Senior Living Corporation, managing 128 communities across 23 states, and Belo Corp. He succeeds Mark Hancock, PACS's co-founder and executive vice chairman, who will retire by 30 June 2026 whilst remaining on the board as vice chairman. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Under his leadership, the company expanded to 323 facilities across 17 states, serving over 31,700 patients daily and generating $5.29 billion in revenue in 2025, representing 29.3% year-on-year growth. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
