Requirements
  • At least 3 years of progressive facilities management experience in a hotel or related field, or a 2-year college degree and 1 year of related management experience.
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • A stationary engineer’s license is required if mandated by local code.
  • HVAC, electrical, plumbing, boiler operations, and general maintenance skills are required.
  • Ability to work long hours when required.
  • Ability to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds frequently, and 20 pounds constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
  • Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing with employees and guests at all levels.
  • Ability to listen to, understand, and clarify concerns raised by employees and guests.
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize departmental functions to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to attend required hotel meetings and training.
  • Ability to participate in manager-on-duty coverage as required.
  • Ability to maintain regular attendance according to scheduling needs.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of information.
Responsibilities
  • Assist in developing and implementing plans to maintain the property, equipment, grounds, and other assets in a safe and acceptable state of repair.
  • Ensure the hotel complies with all local, state, and federal laws.
  • Supervise and train all engineering staff in customer service, empowerment, standard operating procedures, and loss prevention.
  • Create and post schedules for all engineering staff.
  • Create and adhere to the department’s annual budget.
  • Assist in developing financial forecasts and participate in monthly profit and loss review meetings.
  • Create and implement a preventive maintenance program for all hotel equipment.
  • Ensure emergency and life-safety equipment and systems are inspected, tested, and certified according to hotel standards.
  • Participate in energy conservation programs.
  • Review guest and meeting-planner comment cards to identify and correct problems promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act.
  • Assist with administration of engineering department vendor contracts.
  • Ensure room maintenance requests are handled promptly and courteously.
  • Follow up immediately on alarms to determine their location and cause, determine emergency status, report findings to the front desk, and take necessary action.
  • Assist with special projects and renovations as needed.
  • Support and participate in hotel programs.
  • Participate in the hotel safety committee.
  • Attend required meetings and training.
  • Participate in manager-on-duty coverage as required.
  • Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing name tags.
  • Comply with hotel standards and regulations to support safe and efficient operations.
  • Maximize productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
  • Handle problems by anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving them as necessary.
  • Understand and evaluate complex information and data from various sources to meet objectives.
  • Perform other duties requested by management.
