Requirements
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, aerospace engineering, or an equivalent field.
  • Experience with computer-aided design software; SolidWorks is preferred.
  • Prior hands-on experience in a technical shop, laboratory, or student organization.
  • Comfort with project autonomy, fast-paced work environments, and design ownership.
  • Fundamental understanding of mechanical engineering principles, especially fluid mechanics, heat transfer, and gas dynamics.
  • Eligible to obtain and maintain a U.S. Secret security clearance; U.S. citizenship is required.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment drug screen and background check.
Responsibilities
  • Take ownership of propulsion subsystem and component development from ideation through first-article testing and characterization.
  • Design and manufacture engine components, test stand hardware, and piping and tubing systems using in-house machining capabilities.
  • Conduct engine and propulsion component testing in a direct-connect hypersonic testing facility.
  • Develop thermofluids and propulsion performance analysis code using Python or MATLAB.
  • Participate in design reviews and technical discussions across multidisciplinary vehicle subsystem groups.
Desired Qualifications
  • Previous professional or student-team project experience relevant to the position requirements, including FSAE, SEDS, or AIAA experience.
  • Previous experience involving fluid dynamics, thermodynamics, gas dynamics, or combustion.
  • MATLAB or Python experience, especially developing thermofluids analysis tools.
  • Hardware design and build experience with rocket engines or ramjet/scramjet engine platforms.
  • Experience manufacturing and troubleshooting fluid systems containing valves, pumps, tubing, and piping.
  • Ability to diagnose and troubleshoot data acquisition systems, including LabVIEW and PLCs, and test stand sensors such as pressure transducers, thermocouples, and load cells.
  • Experience creating plumbing and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
  • Previous experience with manual machining, computer-aided manufacturing, design for manufacture, and design for additive manufacture.
