Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED with additional training and 1-2 or more years of HVAC experience and technical training certification is required.
  • Possess all valid licenses or certifications required by applicable federal, state, provincial, or local laws and regulations for the work area.
  • EPA and safety certifications are required.
  • Service heating, air conditioning, and ventilation equipment and related accessories.
  • Demonstrate mechanical aptitude and operate the necessary tools and equipment for service projects.
  • Read wiring diagrams and troubleshoot electrical, refrigerant, and duct systems on HVAC equipment.
  • Start up systems, balance airflow, and align belts and pulleys with little to no supervision.
  • Install basic duct fittings.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electronic air cleaners, refrigeration systems, hot water systems, steam boiler systems, humidifiers, and related equipment with little to no supervision.
  • Communicate effectively with customers and resolve customer issues, complaints, or concerns.
  • Maintain effective time-management and organizational skills.
  • Hold a valid driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • Be available for flexible hours and on-call shifts as needed.
  • Stand, walk, climb ladders and attic stairs, and maneuver in attics, basements, and crawl spaces; continually climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl.
  • Work in hot, cold, outdoor, indoor, dry, humid, slippery, elevated, and congested environments.
  • Safely climb ladders rated for a 300-pound load while wearing a 30-pound tool belt.
  • Have natural or corrected vision sufficient for close, distance, and peripheral vision with normal depth perception.
  • Lift up to 75 pounds and lift and carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
Responsibilities
  • Perform residential and light commercial service and maintenance calls under general supervision.
  • Analyze, diagnose, and resolve customer problems in a courteous, professional, timely, and accurate manner.
  • Diagnose and service heating, air conditioning, ventilation, and refrigeration equipment and accessories.
  • Inspect equipment and perform diagnostics to identify potential problems and prevent premature breakdowns or callbacks.
  • Complete routine maintenance and equipment cleaning as needed or required.
  • Deliver and remove parts and equipment needed to complete service work.
  • Use a handheld device to record all required customer-call information, complete forms and paperwork accurately, and collect customer payment.
  • Communicate with dispatch while on duty to provide accurate activity and availability status.
  • Deliver excellent customer service and sustain high customer satisfaction.
  • Promote products and services to customers and communicate replacement-product sales leads to the Sales and Service Coordinator.
  • Use, maintain, and account for company property, vehicles, and tools.
  • Follow standard procedures, properly stock the company vehicle, return defective warranty parts to the branch, and order or replenish vehicle stock as needed.
  • Report unsafe acts, conditions, hazards, injuries, incidents, and policy or legislative contraventions to the supervisor or manager as required.
  • Correct substandard acts or conditions within the area of control.
  • Use and maintain prescribed personal protective equipment.
  • Keep safety guards, devices, and prescribed protective clothing effective and in place.
  • Comply with company safety programs, procedures, and applicable legislative requirements.
  • Operate devices and equipment as prescribed by company programs and procedures.
  • Participate in safety initiatives, teams, or committees.
  • Provide input on safety initiatives and plans to eliminate accident-causing exposures.
  • Avoid actions that may endanger the safety or well-being of others.
  • Perform similar or other assigned duties and maintain regular, reliable attendance.
