About the job

Requirements
  • A high school diploma or GED is required.
  • A minimum of 3–5 years of experience and knowledge operating plasma spray or thermal spray coating equipment is required.
  • Three to five years of experience coating industrial gas turbine components, including turbine blades, vanes, combustion components, transition pieces, shrouds, and compressor components, is required.
  • Knowledge of thermal spray processes, including plasma spray, high-velocity oxygen fuel (HVOF), and bond coat applications, is required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and process specifications is required.
  • Ability to perform basic arithmetic for measurements and calculations and to define and interpret technical drawings is required.
  • Familiarity with coating-thickness measurement equipment and inspection techniques is required.
  • Availability to work days, nights, weekends, and holidays as business requires is required.
Responsibilities
  • Follow work instructions, load programs into ABB robots, and operate and maintain HVOF and plasma spray equipment, including guns and spray systems.
  • Ensure equipment is calibrated and configured for coating applications in accordance with engineering specifications.
  • Prepare surfaces for coating by cleaning, masking, applying polymer, grit blasting, ensuring surfaces are free from contaminants, and deburring coating on non-coated areas.
  • Handle and prepare thermal spray materials, including powders fed into HVOF and plasma guns.
  • Apply HVOF and plasma thermal spray coatings to substrates while adhering to specified gas, powder-feed, and coating-thickness parameters.
  • Verify coating thickness, surface finish, and coating quality using approved inspection processes.
  • Read, interpret, and follow engineering drawings, coating specifications, process sheets, and technical instructions.
  • Monitor the spray process to ensure it meets specifications, using precision tools such as calipers and micrometers to measure coating thickness and other parameters.
  • Perform and track routine equipment maintenance, including preventive maintenance scheduling, troubleshooting, and process adjustments to maintain coating quality.
  • Follow safety initiatives, use required personal protective equipment, maintain housekeeping standards, observe safety and security procedures, use equipment and materials properly, and promote safety processes.
  • Document spray and coating processes and data, and track material usage, coating thicknesses, and quality-control checks.
  • Collaborate with engineering and production teams to resolve process gaps or issues.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives to improve efficiency, productivity, quality, and process reliability.
  • Perform other related tasks assigned by management.
Desired Qualifications
  • Technical or vocational training is preferred.

What believers are saying

  • Structured mentoring: engineer trainees spend approximately two years learning turbine inspections with senior field engineers.
  • Employer-paid protection: careers benefits include company-paid disability and life insurance.
  • Shift premium: the Euclid CNC machinist posting offers a 20% differential for second-shift hours.

What critics are saying

  • Outage-season workload: the Euclid machining shop advertises a full schedule of 50 hours or more.
  • Extensive travel: the engineer training program requires US travel and occasional short overseas assignments.
  • Broad onsite responsibility: gas turbine field engineers oversee site safety, labor and project financials.

What makes Mechanical Dynamics & Analysis unique

  • Patented seal design: Guardian packing rings maintain radial sealing through shutdown, startup and operating conditions.
  • Reduced reassembly: Topless Alignment measures shell deflections and bore positions without tops-on turbine measurements.
  • Narrow-gap inspection: the Air Gap-Bot enters 0.9-inch generator gaps and inspects without removing the field.
