Hi, I'm Tom Clark - CIO, CISO, and hx employee #9. I'm the executive in charge of our Systems & Security function. I joined in 2020 at seed stage, and I've been here through Series A, Series B, and everything in between - watching us grow from nine people to more than 250. I’m six years in, and I've never been more excited about what's ahead.
Fun fact: I didn't come from insurance. I came from TV and media - if you've ever used BBC iPlayer, ITVX, or listened to Capital Radio, I helped make them. I ended up in insurance and became, perhaps unexpectedly, one of the industry's biggest cheerleaders.
I know what you're thinking: insurance isn't cool. I can change your mind in five minutes, or your money back. And the best bit? What we're building with hxOS is cooler still. We take a product-centric, customer-centric view to internal IT - the same rigour and craft you'd bring to any customer-facing product. That's what makes this role different, and it's what I'm most excited about.
Let’s speak soon.
- TC
At hyperexponential, we're building the AI-powered platform that enables the world's most critical decisions in a $7 trillion industry: which risks to take, and how to price them. These are decisions that shape real-world outcomes - whether rockets successfully launch into space, autonomous vehicles make it to market, or communities recover after major storms.
Until now, insurance has been making billion-dollar decisions using outdated tools. We're changing that. Our platform brings together data, AI, and human expertise to give insurers the fastest path from submission to decision. We help them move faster, act smarter, and take on more risk with confidence.
Backed by a16z, Highland Europe, and Battery Ventures, we're scaling globally. We are already trusted by nearly 60 of the world's largest insurers, with zero churn and billions in premiums flowing through hx.
What began as a single product in one market has rapidly evolved into a multi-product, multi-territory platform powering every stage of pricing and underwriting. AI is at the core of what we do: from building the world's first domain-specific AI peer programmer for insurance (think GitHub Copilot with a PhD in actuarial science) to shaping agentic workflows that reinvent how this industry operates.
hxOS is hx's internal operating system. It's the platform every person in the company uses and builds on: devices, meeting rooms, core applications, SSO, AI tools, data infrastructure, security and compliance. The Systems & Security (SYSSEC) team builds it, runs it, and keeps improving it. It'll never be finished. That's the point.
hxOS is as much a vision as a current reality. The foundations are solid, day to day runs well because it has to, nothing gets built on shaky ground. The more ambitious layers - federated, AI-native, product-led infrastructure that the whole business builds on - are what the team is building now.
The Systems Associate is one of the most visible faces of SYSSEC. They're the first point of contact for everything coming into the team, and the work ranges widely: a day might move from troubleshooting a device, to helping a team get more out of a new AI integration, to contributing to a piece of infrastructure the whole company will rely on. What ties it together is ownership: of the service experience, of the queue, and progressively of the platform itself.
The career story here is real. This person becomes hxOS's internal expert, the colleague people turn to when they want to understand what's possible, get more out of their tools, or navigate something new. That's a rare combination of technical depth, operational credibility, and genuine impact at the centre of how the company works.
This is an Associate/IC1 role, suited to a talented graduate or someone with a year or two behind them.
Own the front door. Triage, prioritise, route, and keep stakeholders informed on everything coming into SYSSEC, applying an ITIL/ITSM lens to how work arrives, gets handled, and gets resolved. How it feels to reach out to SYSSEC starts and ends with how this person shows up.
Improve the service, continuously. Good enough today is a problem tomorrow. Look for recurring patterns, find root causes, and change the conditions that created them, through better templates, self-serve paths, proactive communication, and process work that makes repeat tickets rarer over time.
Build things that reduce the work. Scripts, automations, integrations, paved-road workflows. Engineer toil out of the system rather than just processing it, and contribute to the broader hxOS integration layer: connectors, routing logic, self-serve tooling that makes the platform more capable over time.
Be a partner to the business. As the internal expert in hxOS, help colleagues get more out of their devices, applications, and AI tools. This isn't ticket resolution, it's helping people understand what's possible and removing friction between them and a platform designed to make them better at their jobs.
Contribute to strategic delivery. Around 20% of the role is higher-leverage work: contributing to platform design, supporting infrastructure decisions, and building the technical foundations needed to take on bigger challenges over time.
Reliable under volume. Owns a queue without being chased, keeps work moving and stakeholders informed, and holds the same standard whether it's a routine request or a change that touches critical infrastructure.
Builds rather than just processes. Comfortable writing scripts and configuring automations, thinks in repeatable patterns rather than one-off fixes, and treats "make the next version of this job smaller" as the actual goal.
Already AI-native, not AI-curious. Uses AI tools as a natural part of everyday work: triage, documentation, automation scaffolding, first-pass review. Has judgement about where it helps and where it doesn't, rather than reaching for it by default.
Figures things out unprompted. Given a problem, researches it, tests it, forms a view, and comes back with a recommendation rather than a question. Comfortable with ambiguity, applies feedback fast, and is honest about what they do and don't know yet.
You prefer following detailed instructions rather than experimenting and finding your own approach.
You are uncomfortable working directly with non-technical stakeholders to understand their challenges.
You avoid tackling ambiguous or open-ended problems where the solution isn’t obvious.

Hyperexponential provides pricing software for the specialty insurance sector. Its main product, hx Renew, is a cloud-based pricing decision intelligence platform that lets insurers build, deploy, and refine complex actuarial models. Compared with broader analytics vendors, Hyperexponential focuses specifically on specialty and commercial insurance pricing, offering end-to-end model development, deployment, and governance within a single platform to support more profitable pricing decisions. hyperexponential partners with Novacore to unify pricing, rating, and underwriting workflows across its 20-program specialty portfolio. Partnership brings novacore's full specialty book onto one platform, feeding real-time portfolio signals directly into underwriting decisions. LONDON and CONSHOHOCKEN, PA, Aug. 27, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) - hyperexponential (hx), the agentic platform for underwriting work, today announced a partnership with Novacore, the independent specialty insurance managing general agent (MGA). The deployment will bring Novacore's admitted, non-admitted, and reinsurance programs onto a single hx platform, giving its teams unified pricing operations and portfolio visibility across the business. Novacore will move all 20 of its specialty programs onto hx, spanning specialty transportation, real estate, alternative risk, social services, and reinsurance. Most programs are expected to be live within the next year, with the rest to follow as the partnership grows. Rather than managing disconnected systems program by program, Novacore's teams can now compare performance across the book, catch issues earlier, and move faster on the rate changes that matter most, without the IT bottlenecks that have historically slowed them. "Bringing our admitted, non-admitted, and reinsurance programs onto a single platform is an important step in enabling Novacore's ability to continue to scale in a profitable manner," said Darren Govender, Chief Product Officer of Novacore. "Our actuarial team can efficiently build, deploy and govern pricing and underwriting models across all our programs in one place whilst also having close to real time insight of key performance indicators across the portfolio." "Novacore was built to be a forward-thinking, agent-friendly specialty MGA," said Aaron Miller, CEO of Novacore. "That means scaling smart, pricing sharper, and being the partner that sets the pace rather than waiting on it. hyperexponential gives us one foundation across admitted, non-admitted, and reinsurance, so we can spot trends early, respond deliberately, and stay ahead of the market for our agents and carriers." "We're proud to partner with Novacore," said Richard Gunn, President at hyperexponential. "The old model treated pricing, rating, and portfolio visibility as three separate problems. Novacore shares our vision for one agentic platform: where portfolio signals reach underwriters at the moment they're pricing, not in a report they check later." Novacore expects to bring its remaining specialty programs onto hx over the course of the rollout, extending unified pricing and portfolio visibility across its full book. Hyperexponential has introduced hyperoperator, an AI agent that processes broker submissions from intake to decision-ready files within insurers' existing controls. The platform handles data extraction, applies underwriting logic, and prepares files for review or automated progression. The system works across email, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and mobile devices. During a live demonstration at hx Live London, hyperoperator processed a cyber risk submission to pricing in under three minutes without manual data entry. Hyperexponential's platform currently supports underwriting decisions across more than $75 billion in annual commercial property and casualty premium, up 66% from $45 billion last year. The company's customers include Aviva, Allianz, Sompo, Beazley, Markel, HDI, Cincinnati, Convex, and Bowhead. Carriers can configure the system across four modes: straight-through execution, human-in-the-loop review, ad hoc analysis, and always-on monitoring. Hyperoperator will enter controlled customer rollout later this year.
hyperexponential introduces hyperoperator, the unified agent for underwriting work. Jul 8, 2026 hyperexponential (hx) today introduced hyperoperator, the agent that advances broker submissions from intake to decision-ready file inside a carrier's own pricing, appetite, and authority controls. With this release, hx becomes the first agentic underwriting workbench for commercial P&C insurance, capable of taking a broker email to a fully priced and quoted risk. Traditional underwriting workbenches are tools underwriters use to organize work. An agentic underwriting workbench does the routine and preparatory work itself, then brings in underwriters for the high-value judgment calls. hyperoperator meets underwriters where they are: in the hx app, email, Microsoft Teams, Slack, and on mobile devices. Getting started can be as simple as forwarding an email. From there, hyperoperator extracts and structures data, identifies the next allowed action, applies the relevant underwriting logic, and prepares a decision-ready file for review, whether that is underwriter review or automated progression within insurer-defined controls. Across commercial P&C, underwriters are being asked to respond faster, select better risks, and protect profitability as market conditions soften. Most carriers have experimented with AI. Few have moved it into live underwriting. The constraint has never been AI capability. It has been underwriting context: pricing logic, appetite rules, authority controls, portfolio signals, and organizational memory scattered across documents, emails, and disconnected tools. That is why most AI projects stop at intake or triage, leaving the underwriting decision itself untouched. hyperoperator goes deeper, operating inside carriers' respective strategies, models, governance controls, and decision rules to execute underwriting work, not merely assist with it. In his keynote at hx Live London, Amrit Santhirasenan, CEO and Co-Founder of hyperexponential, showed how hyperoperator coordinates specialist agents across the hx platform to turn a carrier's complete context into finished underwriting decisions. In a live demonstration, hyperoperator took a broker submission to a triaged and priced cyber risk in under three minutes, with no manual data entry. "For years, underwriting software has helped teams manage the work around the decision," said Santhirasenan. "The opportunity now is to bring agents into the decision workflow itself, with the pricing logic, portfolio context, and authority controls that serious underwriting requires. hyperoperator gives underwriters leverage without taking judgment out of their hands." Top global carriers trust hx for underwriting decisions across more than $75 billion in annual commercial P&C premium, up 66% from $45 billion in the past year alone. That scale reflects eight years of production experience in some of the world's most demanding underwriting environments. hyperoperator builds on hx's specialist AI agents for submission ingestion, model development and testing, and risk assessment. Already in use across hx's customer base, those agents have shown that AI can take on specific parts of underwriting and actuarial work inside governed production environments. hyperoperator now coordinates those capabilities across the full underwriting journey. The result: every risk gets the right level of review, brokers get faster decisions, and underwriters spend more time on judgment than administration. Carriers can configure agent-led underwriting across four modes: * Straight-through execution: Agents advance work where rules, confidence thresholds, and authority limits allow. * Human-in-the-loop review: Submissions pause for underwriter judgment, referral, or approval when needed, with the relevant context already assembled. * Ad hoc underwriting analysis: Underwriters can ask pricing, appetite, or portfolio questions in the flow of work. * Always-on monitoring: Agents watch book-level signals, including exposure concentration, adequacy drift, and anomalies, and surface what needs attention. "Most carriers believe they are further along the AI maturity curve than they actually are," said Karlyn Carnahan, Head of Insurance North America at Celent. "The next phase of AI in insurance will not be defined by isolated pilots. It will be defined by how safely and effectively carriers bring AI into the workflows where underwriting decisions are prepared, reviewed, and improved over time." The hx platform includes governed workflows, underwriting rules and rating calculation engines, underwriter review-and-approval tools, and portfolio intelligence that brings book-level context into live decisions. Because hyperoperator works through that platform, the agents it coordinates can act on the full underwriting context that good decisions depend on, while remaining governed by the rules, controls, and approval paths insurers define. "Most AI in underwriting stops at the first 20% of the workflow: reading submissions, routing tasks, and helping teams move faster," said Marcus Ryu, General Partner at Battery Ventures and Co-Founder of Guidewire. "The hard part is the other 80%: connecting AI to the pricing logic, workflow controls, portfolio context, and trust infrastructure that underwriting decisions depend on. hyperoperator is compelling because hx has spent years building that foundation in production." hyperoperator will enter controlled customer rollout later this year. hyperexponential supports Allianz Commercial's global pricing and underwriting modernisation. hyperexponential (hx), a technology provider specialising in AI-native pricing and underwriting solutions for commercial insurers, has extended its partnership with Allianz Commercial as part of the insurer's ongoing multi-year pricing and underwriting modernisation programme. According to hyperexponential, its platform has now been implemented across Allianz Commercial's key lines of business, with 13 pricing tools delivered within a 13-week timeframe. The company said the rollout has broadened pricing tool coverage across Allianz Commercial's core portfolio and demonstrates the efficiency gains that can be achieved through modern pricing infrastructure. hyperexponential stated that commercial insurers are increasingly investing in connected, data-led underwriting and pricing capabilities to support decision-making and operational performance. The company, which works with a range of global insurers and underwriting organisations, described its work with Allianz Commercial as a major transformation initiative within the commercial insurance market. Tim Pitt, Chief Pricing and Portfolio Officer at Allianz Commercial, commented: "Speed and precision in pricing are critical to our competitive position in this dynamic and truly international market. Partnering with hyperexponential has given us the platform and agility to take control of our pricing tools, iterate rapidly, and respond to customers and market conditions with confidence. Delivering 13 tools in 13 weeks demonstrates what's possible when you build on modern infrastructure designed for actuarial workflows." "This collaboration has demonstrated fast and effective delivery for our pricing transformation, an integral aspect of our broader strategies to materially improve the technologies and operations supporting our underwriting teams. By standardising the hx platform and embedding it into our commercial infrastructure, we're creating a scalable foundation that empowers our teams to move faster while maintaining the governance and control standards our business requires," added Jon-Paul Jones, Chief Operating Officer at Allianz Commercial. hyperexponential added that the implementation establishes a consistent pricing framework that can be expanded across Allianz Commercial's international operations while maintaining governance and oversight requirements. "Allianz Commercial has set an incredibly ambitious agenda for pricing and underwriting transformation, and the pace at which their teams have turned that vision into reality speaks for itself. We're committed to supporting that momentum as they scale across their global operations," said Amrit Santhirasenan, CEO and co-founder of hyperexponential.
Markel International to modernise underwriting environment with hyperexponential partnership. Markel International, a division of Markel Insurance, the insurance operations within Markel Group Inc., has partnered with hyperexponential (hx) to modernise rating, underwriting workflows and integration architecture across its Canadian business. By integrating hx's platform, Markel is investing heavily in a sophisticated, AI-native underwriting environment. At the same time, it secures hx's growing footprint in North America as a leading pricing and underwriting decision platform for commercial P&C carriers. As part of its collaboration with hyperexponential, Markel Canada has launched a purpose-built Environmental rating capability on the hx platform, enabling a more streamlined, digital experience. This investment marks a shift from fragmented, transactional pricing toward a more connected underwriting experience. By bringing data, pricing and context together in a single workflow, underwriters now have what they need at the point of decision, this without friction or unnecessary hand-offs, the firms explained. Establishing the hx platform as a centralised rating layer creates a scalable foundation that can support more sophisticated products, package policies and evolving portfolio needs over time. This delivers greater clarity at the point of pricing today, while providing a platform designed to grow with the business, enabling faster, more informed decisions as underwriting complexity increases. "Our underwriters need tools that support good judgement, not slow it down. By pulling data directly into the rating workflow, we're cutting friction from everyday decisions and letting our teams focus on what matters most - building trusted relationships with our broker partners, understanding risk and delivering consistent outcomes for clients," says Cliff Laidlaw, Senior Vice President, Underwriting at Markel Canada. Built with the future in mind, the architecture is designed to support emerging agentic and AI-enabled capabilities as they mature, positioning Markel Canada to continue advancing toward truly AI-native underwriting workflows. Maureen Tomlinson, Senior Vice President of Operations at Markel Canada and Head of AI at Markel International, added: "For Markel Canada, this is about more than replacing spreadsheets. It reflects our commitment to investing in a more sophisticated underwriting environment. The hx platform gives our underwriters a better experience today, while laying the groundwork for faster delivery, stronger data capture and future AI-native workflows across the business." Richard Gunn, President at hyperexponential, commented: "Canada is an important market for commercial underwriting, and Markel's ambition here stands out: they're not just patching existing systems, they're building for what comes next. hyperexponential has built the leading AI-native underwriting workbench that keeps pricing, data and decisions in one place, from intake through to quote. We're proud to support a team moving with this level of pace and intent to deliver the decision infrastructure for the next era of underwriting."
