  • A Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required, or years of Clinical Documentation Excellence experience may be considered.
  • Five years of acute care hospital nursing experience are required.
  • Two years of acute care hospital Clinical Documentation Excellence experience are required.
  • One year of previous leadership experience or verifiable management training is required.
  • In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of Clinical Documentation Excellence is required.
  • Must maintain a current Florida Registered Nurse license or a valid Enhanced Nurse Licensure Compact multistate Registered Nurse license.
  • Must maintain at least one current credential: Certified Documentation Specialist (CCDS), Clinical Documentation Improvement Professional (CDIP), Certified Professional Coder (CPC), or Certified Coding Specialist (CCS).
Responsibilities
  • Plan, organize, and direct department activities across multiple hospitals.
  • Provide daily oversight of Clinical Documentation Specialists, support a collaborative team, and manage competing priorities across multiple sites.
  • Review departmental performance and implement changes to improve it.
  • Keep administration informed about department activities, needs, and problems.
  • Resolve issues related to all aspects of the Clinical Documentation Excellence program to support quality outcomes.
  • Mentor and coach assigned team members.
  • Perform second-level reviews as needed and review second-level review audits to identify educational opportunities for the team.
  • Collaborate with site Physician Liaisons, physicians, and physician groups on clinical documentation excellence opportunities.
  • Build relationships with providers, clinicians, administrators, and executives across multiple sites.
  • Collaborate with Coding management on clinical documentation opportunities and Diagnosis-Related Group mismatches as needed.
  • Participate in training new Clinical Documentation Specialists, establish team goals and work priorities, and provide ongoing feedback to the Corporate Clinical Documentation Excellence Director or Manager.
  • Review operational, quality, and performance metrics; help develop action plans to address opportunities; and track program successes and improvement opportunities.
  • Represent the Clinical Documentation Excellence team at assigned meetings.
  • Serve as a subject matter expert and resource on interpreting and applying Clinical Documentation Excellence methodology.
  • Coordinate with other Clinical Documentation Excellence Regional Managers to maintain communication and consistency across facilities.
  • Participate in administrative and management meetings and other meetings as needed.
  • Manage human resources functions, including hiring, work assignments, coaching plans, and performance counseling.
  • Ensure supervised employees complete required training and maintain compliance with required employee education.
  • Perform monthly individual team meetings and productivity meetings, as well as meetings with key stakeholders.
  • Develop and maintain records, reports, and files.
  • Maintain compliance with applicable laws and regulations, organizational policies and procedures, service expectations, and standards of behavior.
  • Maintain regular and punctual attendance and protect confidential data and information.
  • Represent Orlando Health through community interaction.
  • Investigate new technological advances and use critical thinking and sound judgment in decision-making.
  • Communicate, promote, and lead team members through changes.
  • Maintain established work production standards for supervised hospitals.
  • Assume responsibility for professional growth, development, and continuing education to maintain proficiency.
  • Lead others in solving problems, act as a resource for less-experienced team members, and lead teams or maintain accountability for ongoing activities and objectives.
  • Support the director when the director is unavailable.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to meet department and organizational goals.

Florida Cancer Specialists & Research Institute has opened a new 31,000-square-foot facility at Orlando Health Institute Square in St. Petersburg, expanding cancer care access in Pinellas County.
