ABOUT BIOACTIVES
Bioactives are compounds found in plants, fungi, and bacteria that also benefit human health. They are an important part of a nutrient dense diet, and their health impact often goes beyond basic nutrition. For example, the bioactive lycopene found in tomatoes has been found to lower the risk of certain types of cancer and heart disease. In addition, there are multitudes of other bioactives that are only accessible through complex interactions within the gut microbiome. One example is the compound salicin found in willow bark, which transforms into salicylic acid when it interacts with gut microbes. Science has long known that bioactives are critical to human health, yet the vast majority remain unknown and are often referred to as the “dark matter” of nutrition.
ABOUT THE ROLE
With a passion for how nature can improve our overall health and wellness this role offers a blend of strategy, sales, and product innovation. You will collaborate with industry leaders to leverage Forager’s® capabilities and develop bioactive products that solve unmet needs across food, CPG, consumer health, OTC and Rx. Our goal is to get to market with co-developed bioactives, so the Business Development team focuses on managing partnerships for mutual long-term success, sometimes expanding relationships into Strategic Partnerships. The Business Development team is responsible for generating revenue aligned with company goals.
YOUR IMPACT
- Scope, negotiate, and close groundbreaking and industry-disrupting deals in the consumer health, OTC, nutrition and Rx space
- Identify and qualify new potential partners leveraging your existing network as well as expanding beyond through your own proactive outreach
- Lead a portfolio of R&D collaborations and deliver program success while developing and maintaining relationships with key partner stakeholders
- Pursue opportunities for the expansion of Brightseed services and technologies for new and existing partner collaborations by understanding the drivers of our partners’ business, and proactively identifying opportunities to expand and deepen collaborations
- Work with the Brightseed product and technology teams to develop new products and service offerings based on your industry insights and market intelligence
- Develop standardized sales processes and materials to be used in prospecting meetings and for existing partners
YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- Typically requires a minimum of 8-12 years of related experience with a Bachelor’s degree; or 6-8 years and a Master’s degree; or a PhD with 3-5 years experience; or equivalent experience.
- Experience in business development, product development, strategy, or sales within biopharma, consumer health, or CPG/nutrition required
- Experience partnering with technical sales to effectively present to technical and non technical audiences
- Experience with complex deal structuring, involving value sharing terms, IP use and milestone payments
- Track record of scoping, structuring, and managing deals as well as strategic account management at VP or CXO levels
- Experience managing a sales pipeline with a history of meeting or exceeding sales goals
- You are creative and work well with intense timelines and a healthy dose of ambiguity in a highly technical field
- Experience working closely with research functions, with demonstrable ability to translate scientific data and results into relevant commercial insights
- Strong interpersonal, influence, communication and presentation skills to represent Brightseed’s value proposition and mission

- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at time
COMPENSATION
- The total target compensation range for this position is $170,000 - $185,000.
- The total target compensation includes a base salary and commission based on the achievement of goals and milestones established by the Company.
- Compensation for this position is commensurate with relevant qualifications and work experience, academic credentials, job related skills, employment location and other factors.
