About the Company

CarMax

Buys and sells used cars at no-haggle prices

CarMax buys and sells used cars across the United States at fixed, no-haggle prices, and it is the country's largest used-car retailer. It is also the largest U.S. buyer of used cars from consumers, giving owners a written offer that holds for seven days whether or not they buy from it. Shoppers can buy entirely online, in one of its stores, or through a mix of both, and every car is reconditioned and inspected before sale. CarMax earns money on each car it sells at retail or through wholesale auctions, on extended service plans, and on loans from its own lender, CarMax Auto Finance. Circuit City opened the first CarMax store in 1993, and the company is based in Richmond, Virginia.
