Requirements
  • Eligibility for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of Nova Scotia.
  • Coverage with the Canadian Medical Protective Association or proof of alternative coverage.
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support certification.
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support certification.
Responsibilities
  • Attend deliveries and provide care for patients of any gestational age who require neonatal intensive care unit services.
  • Provide in-house daytime coverage Monday through Friday for neonatal services across the neonatal intensive care unit, labor and delivery/operating room, Mother–Baby Unit, and perinatal clinic.
  • Supervise and teach residents and medical students.
  • Provide care and coordination of community-based care and secondary and tertiary level health care.
  • Operate within the bylaws and rules and regulations of Nova Scotia Health Authority.
  • Participate in quality improvement and evaluation activities.
  • Provide after-hours, weekend, and holiday home call, including first call for critically ill neonates and deliveries under 30 weeks and second call when the pediatrician covering the neonatal intensive care unit needs assistance.
  • Participate in an equitably shared on-call rotation organized by the neonatologists to ensure coverage throughout the year.
