  • A Bachelor's degree is required, or an equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
  • Ten years of experience as a Certified Peace Officer is required.
  • Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications is required.
  • Thorough knowledge of the criminal justice system is required.

  • Texas Commission on Law Enforcement Master Peace Officer Certification is required.
  • A State of Texas Class C vehicle operator's license is required, or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
  • Firearms proficiency is required.
  • The candidate must successfully pass a psychological evaluation, physical examination, and background investigation, including driving history, criminal background, and credit history.
  • The candidate must meet minimum licensing standard requirements under Texas Commission on Law Enforcement § 217.1.
Responsibilities
  • Oversee general administration for all law enforcement functions assigned to Field Operations.
  • Ensure programs are in place to maximize the security of people and property on campus.
  • Assume overall responsibility for department operations in the absence of the Chief of Police.
  • Monitor and evaluate the efficiency and effectiveness of police service methods and procedures, and recommend appropriate service and staffing levels.
  • Respond to and resolve difficult and sensitive citizen inquiries and complaints.
  • Respond to questions and information requests from the public.
  • Manage services and activities of the assigned functional area.
  • Coordinate personnel activities involving preservation of order, protection of life and property, crime investigations, and enforcement of state laws.
  • Supervise assigned staff.
  • Serve as backup to the Chief of Police.
  • Assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Formulate rules, procedures, and standards for assigned divisions and ensure they are maintained.
  • Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal reporting requirements.
  • Respond to information requests from government agencies and the general public.
  • Conduct and complete special projects.
  • Maintain department accreditation, including reviewing and updating department policies and standing general orders.
  • Work beyond normal office hours and/or on weekends.
  • Maintain a regular attendance schedule on campus and in the workplace.
Desired Qualifications
  • Fifteen years of experience as a Certified Peace Officer is preferred.
  • Experience in higher education campus law enforcement is preferred.
  • Knowledge of Internal Affairs is preferred.
