Sportradar faces EU and UK antitrust claims from Altenar.

Sportradar faces EU and UK antitrust claims from Altenar. Sportradar faces EU and UK antitrust claims from Altenar vanja mitic October 15, 2026 latest casino and gambling news. Sports technology provider Sportradar is facing competition complaints from rival Altenar Technologies over allegations that its exclusive sports data agreements restrict access for other sportsbook suppliers. Altenar approached the European Commission and the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) on October 14, seeking regulatory intervention in a dispute that began earlier this year. The allegations concern Sportradar's exclusive agreements with major sports organisations, including Major League Baseball (MLB), the National Basketball Association (NBA), the National Hockey League (NHL) and the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). These partnerships give Sportradar rights to collect and distribute official sporting information, including live data used to calculate betting odds. Altenar argues that the arrangements limit independent providers' ability to compete in the sportsbook technology market. Competition authorities review submitted information. The European Commission has acknowledged receiving information about the dispute, although it remains unclear whether Altenar has formally registered a competition complaint. "We have received market information on this matter, which we are assessing," a Commission spokesperson said. The UK's CMA is understood to have received a complaint but has not opened an investigation. The regulator declined to comment on individual matters outside formal proceedings. Altenar is seeking intervention to address what it considers unfair restrictions on access to essential sports data. "We believe Sportradar is using its control of essential sports data to shut out businesses with a competing offer," an Altenar spokesperson said, according to The Straits Times. The company has also asked the CMA to consider interim measures restoring access to relevant data and betting odds while the allegations are assessed. Altenar maintains that bookmakers across the EU and UK should have access to competing technology providers under fair commercial conditions. If regulators ultimately establish violations of EU competition law, the penalties could reach 10% of a company's annual worldwide turnover. At present, authorities have announced no formal findings against Sportradar. Existing legal dispute extends beyond europe. The latest complaints follow an antitrust lawsuit Altenar filed in the US District Court for the District of New Jersey in April 2026. The proceedings accuse Sportradar of using its exclusive league partnerships to monopolise the market for official live sports data and disadvantage competing sportsbook software businesses. Altenar also initiated proceedings in London's High Court when the dispute first emerged. The company's allegations focus on Sportradar's position as both a supplier of official sporting information and a provider of betting technology. Sportradar distributes data to prominent gambling operators, including businesses owned by Flutter Entertainment, while maintaining commercial partnerships with major international sports organisations such as FIFA. Altenar believes these arrangements give Sportradar an advantage when competing for sportsbook technology contracts. The companies have also disputed how their US legal proceedings should be handled. Sportradar previously sought to move the litigation into private arbitration in Zurich, referring to provisions in an existing commercial agreement. Altenar opposed that request, arguing that its antitrust claims should remain before a US federal court. The approaches to European regulators therefore add a further dimension to an ongoing disagreement involving several jurisdictions. Sportradar denies allegations and criticises complaints. Sportradar has rejected Altenar's accusations and questioned the decision to publicise further regulatory complaints while legal proceedings remain active. The company said it had been aware since February 2026 that Altenar was considering submissions to competition authorities in multiple jurisdictions. A Sportradar spokesperson stated: "Altenar's latest efforts to inflame the news agenda appear duplicative, unnecessary and serve as a thinly veiled attempt to assert pressure in the existing commercial disputes in process. Sportradar has and will continue to comply with antitrust and other laws wherever it does business." The company also indicated that it had not received formal notice of the latest alleged complaint. The dispute raises questions about how exclusive sports data agreements operate when rights holders grant access to companies that also compete in the betting technology market. For sportsbook operators, the issue concerns the availability of independent suppliers capable of providing live betting products using official sporting information. Altenar continues to seek regulatory intervention, while Sportradar maintains that its business practices comply with applicable competition laws. Further proceedings will depend on whether authorities decide to pursue formal investigations and how the existing court cases develop.

EU and UK antitrust authorities investigating Sportradar.

EU and UK antitrust authorities investigating Sportradar. October 15, 2026 Key Points * Altenar filed EU and UK antitrust complaints accusing Sportradar of restricting rivals' access to official live sports data and betting odds * EU fines could reach 10% of global annual turnover if violations are established * Sportradar faces further scrutiny following allegations about its links to unlicensed gambling operators Sportradar Group is grappling with competition complaints in Europe after sportsbook software provider Altenar Technologies accused it of limiting rivals' access to official live sports data. Sportradar accused of restricting competition in sports betting data. Altenar Technologies has taken to regulators in the European Union and the United Kingdom, requesting action against practices it says restrict competition in the sports betting technology market, as reported by Reuters. The complaints, filed on October 14, concern Sportradar's commercial agreements with leading sports organizations. These include Major League Baseball (MLB), National Basketball Association (NBA), National Hockey League (NHL) and Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP). Sportradar has exclusive rights to collect and disseminate official sports data from these leagues. It also has the right to produce live betting odds based on that information. Altenar says Sportradar's control of key data sources puts rival suppliers at a disadvantage. The creator of sportsbook software said bookmakers across Europe and Britain need access to alternative providers to keep competition alive and spur innovation. The company has urged the European Commission and the UK's Competition and Markets Authority (CMA) to probe the alleged restrictions. It also has asked the British regulator to take interim measures to grant access to crucial data and betting odds while the matter is being considered. The European Commission said it had received information on the dispute and was looking into it. The CMA said it does not comment on individual cases that are not part of formal investigations. Altenar's complaints add to Sportradar's legal and regulatory pressure. Sportradar dismissed Altenar's latest move as unnecessary and largely a reiteration of existing commercial disputes. The company also said it has an obligation to comply with competition laws and other applicable regulations in any market it operates in. The row has already spread outside Europe. In March 2026, Altenar filed an antitrust lawsuit against Sportradar in a US court, accusing the company of monopolizing the market for official live sports data in America and choking off competition. European authorities could slap heavy fines on Sportradar if it is found to have violated antitrust rules. EU competition rules allow fines of up to 10% of a firm's annual global sales. However, the complaints themselves do not amount to wrongdoing or prompt an official inquiry. The fresh allegations come after Sportradar's business practices were separately examined earlier this year. In April, short-selling research firms Muddy Waters and Callisto Research alleged the company made substantial income from unlicensed gambling operators. Sportradar rejected the claims, saying the reports misrepresented its business and were designed to help short sellers. The company also reported solid financial growth even as there is evidence of a slowdown in online sports betting activity in the United States. Sportradar, which in August forecast annual revenue of about $1.7 billion, raised its revenue guidance by 20%. Meanwhile, the company has identified prediction markets and its integration of IMG Arena as further growth opportunities.
