Requirements
- Graduate from an accredited school of nursing.
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing is required.
- A Registered Nurse license is required.
- Basic Life Support certification is required.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification is required.
- Pediatric Advanced Life Support certification is required.
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required.
Responsibilities
- Deliver patient-family centered care in a culturally competent manner using evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific patient care.
- Oversee nurses and allied health staff in their daily practice.
- Assess assigned patients and evaluate plans, including documentation of nursing care.
- Report symptoms and changes in patients’ condition and vital signs.
- Modify patient treatment plans as indicated by patients’ responses, conditions, and physician orders.
- Review, evaluate, and report diagnostic tests to assess patients’ conditions.
- Consult with physicians and other healthcare professionals regarding assigned patients to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans.
- Prepare patients for and assist with examinations, procedures, and treatments.
- Consider patient age and culture during treatments and provide information regarding treatment plans.
- Provide psychological support and nurture a compassionate environment.
- Perform appropriate patient tests and safely administer medications within the scope of practice.
- Maintain accurate records related to medications and treatments in accordance with regulatory requirements, policies, procedures, and physician orders.
- Communicate the plan of care in a timely manner to patients, families, and appropriate team members while ensuring compliance with regulatory guidelines such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act.
- Use best practices for transitions of patient care.
- Use available resources to assist in discharge planning.
- Plan, prioritize, and adjust assignments to accomplish goals and provide patient care; seek assistance when needed.
- Adapt to changing work demands and environments.
- Safely operate medical equipment.
- Serve as a preceptor and assist new staff in providing care and acclimating to the healthcare environment and direct patient care.
- Provide concise and constructive feedback when needed.
- Adhere to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguard University assets.
Desired Qualifications
- Certified Registered Nurse (CRN) certification is preferred.
