Requirements
  • At least 5 years of personal injury litigation paralegal experience, including active litigation-stage experience; pre-litigation experience alone will not be considered.

  • Ability to work Mountain Time business hours, Monday through Thursday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
  • Ability to pass a background check.
Responsibilities
  • Work with attorneys as part of a team to provide clients with advocacy and move cases toward resolution.
  • Attend firm-wide, team, calendar, transition-to-litigation, and team-lead meetings.
  • Enter status comments and review individual metrics and goals.
  • Draft and file complaints within 30 days of a case being transferred to litigation.
  • Send service of process within 15 days of filing a complaint and accomplish service within 30 days of sending it.
  • Request scheduling conferences within 30 days of all defendants filing answers, unless the attorney elects not to request one for a case valued above $100,000.
  • Ensure scheduling hearings are set within two months of the request and calendar scheduling-order items within five days of receipt.
  • Schedule mediations within 60 days of moving a case to Litigation, Discovery, Depositions.
  • Provide clients with telephonic updates every six weeks and send relevant file materials.
  • Speak with adjusters, defense attorneys, and others involved in litigation.
  • Work with legal assistants to electronically file and serve court pleadings.
  • Track case costs, including anticipated mediation, deposition, and expert fees.
  • Draft and serve subpoenas.
  • Compose discovery requests, answers, and responses.
  • Create and maintain discovery indexes identifying all parties’ production by Bates stamp numbers.
  • Review defendants’ discovery responses and deposition transcripts to determine follow-up discovery.
  • Update case analyses within one week of receiving defendants’ discovery answers and policy limits.
  • Set depositions and request witness fees when necessary.
  • Create motion, mediation, arbitration, and exhibit binders.
  • Maintain current knowledge of each case and coordinate background and asset checks for defendants and background checks for clients.
  • Complete attorney assignments in a timely manner.
  • Draft correspondence, pleadings, and discovery for attorneys and save and name documents in SmartAdvocate according to the naming protocol.
  • Calendar case information according to the calendaring protocol.
  • Perform backup intake calls according to the intake protocol.
  • Coordinate with staff assigned to cases to move them toward the desired conclusion.
  • Post case information, case dates, and litigation information in SmartAdvocate.
  • Prepare for trial, including scheduling witness statements and organizing exhibits and demonstrative materials.
  • Attend trial.
  • Follow firm policies and procedures.
  • Contribute to client satisfaction and firm revenue goals.
