About the Job

Requirements

  • An advanced degree is required, along with 6 or more years of SerDes or high-speed analog design experience.
  • In-depth familiarity with transistor-level circuit design and sound CMOS design fundamentals is required.
  • Silicon-proven experience implementing circuits for the TX, RX, and clock paths within a SerDes is required.
  • Experience leading a small team of designers collaborating on macro-level design building blocks is required.
  • Detailed design experience with several SerDes sub-circuits is required, including receive equalizers, data samplers, voltage/current-mode drivers, serializers, deserializers, voltage-controlled oscillators, phase interpolators, delay-locked loops, phase-locked loops, bandgap references, analog-to-digital converters, and digital-to-analog converters.
  • Experience optimizing FinFET CMOS layout to minimize parasitic resistance and capacitance and reduce local device mismatch and proximity effects is required.
  • Awareness of electrostatic discharge issues, including circuit techniques and layout, and design-for-reliability concerns such as electromigration, IR, and aging is required.
  • Hands-on experience applying artificial intelligence or machine learning, generative artificial intelligence, or optimization techniques to analog and mixed-signal circuit design, simulation, verification, or design-data analysis is required.
  • Experience with electronic design automation tools for schematic entry, physical layout, and design verification is required.
  • Knowledge of SPICE simulators and simulation methods is required.
  • Knowledge of Verilog-A for analog behavioral modeling and simulation control and data capture is required.
  • Experience with TCL, Perl, C, Python, and MATLAB is required.
  • Ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to peers and customers, with presentation and documentation skills, is required.
  • Experience designing, verifying, and optimizing circuits for high performance, low power, and minimal area is required.
  • Familiarity with CMOS design and a track record of taping out silicon-proven designs for modern communication interfaces are required.
  • Ability to navigate the design flow from architectural review and specification through layout, simulation, and silicon validation is required.

Responsibilities

  • Own analog macro-level design.
  • Track and review the work of sub-block owners.
  • Review SerDes standards and architecture documents to develop analog specifications.
  • Identify and refine circuit implementations to achieve power, area, and performance targets.
  • Propose design and verification strategies that efficiently use simulator features to ensure high design quality.
  • Oversee physical layout to minimize the effects of parasitics, device stress, and process variation.
  • Collaborate with digital RTL engineers on calibration, adaptation, and control algorithms for analog circuits.
  • Drive adoption of artificial-intelligence-assisted methods in analog and mixed-signal design to optimize circuit architectures, device sizing, biasing, and power, performance, area, and reliability tradeoffs.
  • Develop AI agents and reusable automation integrated with electronic design automation and simulation flows to launch and monitor regressions, explore design spaces, analyze results, identify anomalies, and recommend next design actions.
  • Use AI-enabled workflows to reduce manual effort and improve turnaround across specification, schematic design, verification, layout review, silicon correlation, and documentation.
  • Partner with analog designers, digital and verification teams, and CAD/software engineers to curate design data, establish reusable AI workflows, and measure improvements in quality, productivity, and cycle time.
  • Ensure AI-generated recommendations are traceable, reproducible, and validated through engineering analysis and sign-off.
  • Present simulation data for peer and customer review.
  • Mentor junior engineers and review their progress.
  • Document design features and test plans.
  • Consult on electrical characterization of the circuit within the SerDes IP product.

Desired Qualifications

  • Experience building AI agents or Python-based automation that interfaces with electronic design automation tools, simulation environments, application programming interfaces, and engineering data pipelines is preferred.

About the Company

Synopsys

EDA software for chip design

Synopsys provides software tools and services for electronic design automation (EDA), helping engineers design, simulate, verify, and optimize semiconductor chips and systems. Its products cover the full design flow, including RTL-to-gating synthesis, place-and-route, timing analysis, verification, and silicon validation, as well as software integrity solutions and hardware-assisted verification. Engineers use these tools to model, simulate, and validate complex chip designs before manufacturing, reducing bugs and improving performance. Compared with many competitors, Synopsys differentiates itself through its broad, end-to-end design toolchain, large ecosystem of IP and integration with simulation and modeling capabilities gained from its 2025 merger with ANSYS, and its global scale and support. The company aims to help designers push the boundaries of chip and system performance, accelerate time-to-market, and enable silicon-to-systems design across a wide range of industries.
