Responsibilities
  • The Clinical Coordinator will be responsible for the daily operations of the assigned departments.
  • Act as a liaison between assigned departments and other departments, and direct and coordinate the daily activities of assigned departments, including personnel, patient care, and regulatory compliance.
  • Evaluate, identify, and make changes in daily nursing activities, including staffing between services, use of resources and materials, priority setting, and patient services.
  • Motivate, support, and provide feedback to staff; conduct staff and shift meetings; and communicate feedback to the Director and Clinical Manager.
  • Supervise nursing and ancillary staff, including hiring recommendations, orienting, training, counseling, evaluating, and discharging according to hospital policy and procedures.
  • Establish staff work schedules and assignments to ensure proper staffing for department needs, and work with scheduling to evaluate and implement scheduling changes.
  • Work with the Education Coordinator to assist with orientation of new employees, certification, student affiliation, and employee in-service issues.
  • Participate in unit Quality Improvement activities and review quality and risk-management issues daily, reporting appropriately with other departments.
  • Research, develop, and implement assigned projects.
  • Comply with hospital and professional licensure, certification, in-service and training requirements, and required committee and conference participation.
  • Interpret and communicate hospital and division philosophy, policies, procedures, and established standards of care and practice; assist in developing departmental goals, objectives, policies, and procedures.
  • Maintain adequate supplies and equipment for unit or department operations; make recommendations and assist with developing operational and capital budgets.
  • Coordinate admissions and discharges; serve as a communication liaison between patients, families, staff, and physicians; and report critical consequences of actions taken to the Manager.
  • Use leadership principles to initiate, prescribe, influence, and facilitate changes in nursing practices.
  • Use the nursing process to define patient or system problems and work collaboratively with departmental and hospital staff to outline and accomplish long- and short-term solutions.
  • Provide consultation to healthcare team members using clinical and theoretical nursing expertise; maintain familiarity with patient-care issues related to medical problems, surgical procedures, diagnostic studies, and equipment pertinent to the area.
  • Represent the department or Northside in working with local, regional, and state organizations and programs related to medical services.
