About the Job

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Physics, Computer Engineering, or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent work experience.
  • At least 3 years of work experience in system integration, data center hardware validation, or networking hardware development.
  • At least 2 years of experience with transceivers, active electrical cables (AEC), direct-attach copper cables (DACs), or related IEEE standards, and developing test automation frameworks and scripts for hardware validation and characterization.
  • At least 2 years of experience working with original design manufacturers (ODM) on system-level integration, test development, and qualifications.
  • Professional development experience with Python for test automation and scripting.
  • Experience owning the end-to-end product lifecycle from concept through production and operations.

Responsibilities

  • Manage vendors and manufacturers to assess new fiber optic and passive infrastructure designs, establish fiber testing standards, and develop scalable implementation strategies for network-wide deployment.
  • Automate fiber test plans and qualify fiber connectivity designs.
  • Design and specify structured cabling systems, including fiber, copper, and cable trays or duct banks, for network layers at hyperscale data centers.
  • Develop standards, reference designs, and installation guidelines for physical network and cabling deployments and structured cabling systems.
  • Address ambiguous problem areas in existing or new network architecture and systems development initiatives, and propose and deliver projects with significant business or customer impact.
  • Drive discussions with customers and peers and influence team strategy.
  • Partner with internal network engineering and site operations teams to align physical design with logical network architecture.
  • Monitor module quality across the fleet and build mechanisms to remediate large-scale events and improve link health.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues during build, commissioning, and handover phases to ensure network readiness.
  • Provide feedback to design and operations teams to drive continuous improvement of physical network standards.
  • Understand AWS network growth and internal customers' interconnect requirements, then devise hardware solutions by influencing the industry or developing software tools with partner teams to maintain a highly available network.
  • Design and implement processes and mechanisms that deliver business impact systemically and improve operational excellence.
  • Bridge design, construction, and operations to ensure each layer of physical networking, from fiber trunks to copper patching, meets performance, reliability, and scalability standards.

Desired Qualifications

  • Demonstrated mastery of system architecture and understanding of multiple hardware disciplines, including electrical, optical, mechanical, manufacturing, validation, and reliability.
  • Experience managing strategic partnerships with manufacturing partners and defining engineering standards and quality frameworks adopted across partner organizations.
  • Expertise in rack interconnect test methodologies, including loopback testing, fiber characterization, and active electrical cable validation at system and rack level.
  • Experience with design and manufacturing of pluggable optics, active electrical cables, and direct-attach copper cables, including SFP, SFP+, QSFP, QSFP-DD, and OSFP, at the rack integration level.
  • Track record of leading cross-functional teams and driving complex technical decisions that impact product quality and time-to-market.

Amazon

Sells products online and rents cloud computing

Amazon runs the largest online store in the United States and rents cloud computing to businesses and governments through Amazon Web Services. AWS pioneered renting computing power over the internet, and Amazon built its own delivery network to get orders to customers quickly. Shoppers buy from Amazon and from independent sellers on its store, and Prime members pay a subscription for fast free shipping, streaming video and music, and other perks. AWS rents out computing power, storage, databases, and AI tools so companies can run software without owning servers, and Amazon also makes Kindle e-readers and Echo speakers with the Alexa assistant. Jeff Bezos founded Amazon in 1994, and it is based in Seattle, Washington.
