About the job

Requirements
  • Have built a calibrated statistical decision system with stated error rates and experience addressing its mistakes; publications in inference and training verification, fraud detection, anti-cheat, and experimentation platforms are relevant.
  • Have deep expertise in statistics and probability, including designing experiments, calibrating decision thresholds, and defending claimed error rates.
  • Understand methods for verifying untrusted compute, including statistical testing, re-execution, cryptographic proofs, and trusted hardware, and be able to assess their suitability for a permissionless network.
  • Believe Protocol Learning is a viable path for collective, trustless, and sovereign AI.
  • Have professional-level written and spoken English proficiency.
  • Be comfortable working across time zones.
Responsibilities
  • Enumerate threats from malicious or careless workers across pre-training, post-training, and inference, including training disruption and denial of service, free-riding, model poisoning and backdoors, data extraction from gradients and activations, and reputation and reward manipulation; keep the threat model current as the network grows.
  • Build statistical verification methods with stated error rates, tune them with rigorous benchmarks, and control false positives and false negatives across heterogeneous hardware, including different GPUs and Macs.
  • Build and operate the verification service in the inference path and take responsibility for its mistakes.
Desired Qualifications
  • Familiarity with large-scale pre-training and reinforcement-learning post-training.
  • Familiarity with decentralized machine-learning security and adversarial threat models, such as poisoning, Sybil attacks, collusion, and replay.
  • Experience at proprietary, open-weight, and open-source AI labs.

About the company

Pluralis Research develops a protocol for decentralized training and shared ownership of foundation models. The core product is a framework that enables collaborative, distributed model development, allowing multiple parties to contribute data and compute without centralizing control. Revenue likely comes from licensing the protocol and offering consulting services to help organizations implement decentralized training methods. The team includes former FAANG researchers who bring deep expertise in AI research and scalable systems. Pluralis differentiates itself by focusing on decentralized, ownership-enabled training for foundation models rather than traditional centralized approaches, aiming to reduce reliance on centralized data processing. The company's goal is to make it practical for organizations to jointly train and own sophisticated foundation models through a distributed, cooperative framework.

What believers are saying

  • Pluralis ran open multi-participant training runs in August 2026, proving live execution.
  • Pluralis hosted an ICML 2026 Protocol Learning workshop, strengthening research credibility and recruiting.
  • Pluralis lists eight engineering openings in August 2026, signaling active build-out and demand.

What critics are saying

  • Pluralis still lacks a commercial product, leaving revenue dependent on future protocol adoption.
  • OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google can outspend Pluralis and drain contributor attention by 2027.
  • If centralized models keep winning benchmarks, Pluralis becomes a niche research shop.

What makes Pluralis Research unique

  • Pluralis builds decentralized training with collective ownership across global participant networks.
  • Agora trained Pluralis-8B on 500B tokens across 330 contributor nodes in 2026.
  • ICML 2026 accepted Factored Gossip DiLoCo, improving low-bandwidth billion-parameter training.
