About the job

Requirements
  • Demonstrated experience building and deploying production-grade AI/large language model harnesses that connect models to customer data, tools, application programming interfaces, and business workflows, with appropriate evaluation, observability, guardrails, and failure handling.
  • Strong judgment about when to fine-tune, prompt, use retrieval-augmented generation, build an agent, or build a harness, and the ability to defend those choices with numbers.
  • Production experience with current frontier models and open models, including Claude, GPT, and Gemini.
  • Experience shipping products people use, independently or as a clear technical lead.
  • Ability to travel to customer sites, work in customers' offices, and understand their businesses before coding.
  • Comfort working amid ambiguity, on small teams, and in unglamorous industries.
Responsibilities
  • Build an industry-specific GPT reasoning layer that encodes the domain expertise of each operating vertical.
  • Embed AI-native functionality into the AI-native system of record, replacing core workflows with agents.
  • Move legacy system-of-record datasets into new AI-native systems of record.
  • Develop a repeatable playbook, model stack, evaluation harness, and infrastructure for new portfolio companies.
  • Manage AI talent across operating companies, serving as a player-coach for embedded AI engineers.
  • Ship a working domain-specific agent into a live customer environment within the first 30 days.
  • Build evaluation infrastructure to measure whether agents are replacing human workflows.
  • Fine-tune, distill, or route across frontier and open models based on the economics of each vertical.
  • Observe customer work, instrument workflows, and rebuild them.
  • Write the AI engineering playbook for future portfolio companies.

About the company

Atomic is a venture studio that helps entrepreneurs turn ideas into companies by pairing founders with a ready-made team of experts, a network of successful founders, and the necessary resources. It operates in the early-stage venture capital space and owns a dedicated fund to seed studio-initiated startups. The studio identifies promising business ideas, assembles the right teams, and provides funding, operational support, and guidance to bring projects to life. Unlike many investors, Atomic maintains a high level of control and hands-on involvement by backing ventures started within the studio through its fourth fund, which totals $320 million. The goal is to increase the likelihood that new startups succeed and create substantial value by combining disciplined idea selection, expert execution, and sufficient financial backing.

What believers are saying

  • Atomic launched Golden Child in 2026 and raised $37 million from top investors.
  • Exowatt raised $50 million in 2025, targeting AI datacenter power demand.
  • BoomPop’s acquisition by Navan in 2026 shows Atomic can create saleable businesses.

What critics are saying

  • Atomic concentrates bets in Jack Abraham’s idea pipeline; a weak bench stalls company creation quickly.
  • Exowatt, Replicant, and Golden Child still need durable exits to validate Atomic’s model.
  • A portfolio failure at Hims & Hers or Exowatt would damage recruiting and capital access.

What makes Atomic unique

  • Atomic’s 2023 $320 million fourth fund backs only studio-created companies.
  • Jack Abraham’s studio model produced Hims & Hers, now $2.35 billion revenue in 2025.
  • Atomic pairs founders with internal talent, capital, and playbooks from day one.

Elly raises $8M for AI-native hiring platform that cuts interview documentation time by 1.75 hours

Elly has launched an AI-native hiring platform and raised $8 million in funding led by Sorenson Capital, with participation from Atomic and Next Wave Capital.
