Requirements
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Able to demonstrate basic math skills, including translating pounds and ounces into decimals.
  • Able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, holidays, and weekends.
  • Must use a hair restraint, clean uniform, name tag, cut gloves, production gloves, and slip-resistant shoes as required.
  • Must safely use knives, slicers, box cutters, powered equipment, and other deli and kitchen equipment after training.
  • Must be able to determine spoiled or damaged product.
  • Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, stretch into display cases, perform repetitive arm and hand movements, stand and walk for a 4–8 hour shift, and lift deli products weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Must maintain reliable attendance.
  • Must follow food safety, sanitation, personal hygiene, time and temperature control, cross-contamination prevention, weights and measures, and safe lifting procedures.
  • Must work effectively with others and serve customers and the public.
Responsibilities
  • Provide friendly and courteous service to customers in person and by phone.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area, equipment, deli cases, and backroom according to company food safety and sanitation guidelines.
  • Slice and weigh lunch meats and cheeses, confirming slice thickness with customers before completing orders.
  • Use product knowledge, suggestive selling, and product sampling to answer customer questions and assist product-related decisions.
  • Fill, rotate, date, package, present, and restock products for the display case and proper storage.
  • Operate meat and cheese slicers, scales, wrapping equipment, fryers, rotisserie ovens, steamers, and other kitchen equipment as required.
  • Fry chicken and prepare sandwiches, party trays, salads, and special orders according to company recipes.
  • Pull products from cases for proper storage at closing.
  • Ensure food freshness and proper product rotation, and report cooler or case temperature failures to management.
  • Answer phones and take special orders courteously.
  • Keep the customer as the first priority while multitasking.
  • Offer product samples to help customers discover new products.
  • Attend required training before the first scheduled workday and perform other assigned duties.
Desired Qualifications
  • Food preparation experience is a plus.
  • Six months of employment with Schnucks is preferred for store or facility teammates.
  • One year of employment with Schnucks is preferred for Store Support Center teammates.
  • Internal candidates must be in good standing and obtain manager approval based on performance if invited to interview.
