  • Thorough knowledge of CSA certification options, programs, and services applicable to a variety of equipment.
  • Strong interpersonal, communication, customer service, and problem-solving skills, with attention to detail.
  • Strong organizational, time-management, and project-management skills to complete tasks independently and efficiently.
  • Ability to work unsupervised in a team-based work environment.
  • Ability to read, interpret, and develop engineering drawings.
  • Technical report-writing skills.
  • Computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to use various laboratory equipment, instruments, and tools.
Responsibilities
  • Manage multiple certification projects independently, ensuring compliance with applicable safety requirements and completion within time and cost deadlines.
  • Evaluate products against national and international standards and precedent decisions.
  • Review test data and reports, authorize application of certification marks, and prepare or sign certification reports and certificates of compliance.
  • Conduct construction evaluations and identify the rationale for product compliance or non-compliance.
  • Collaborate with laboratory technicians to create work orders specifying required tests, test order, and sample quantities.
  • Verify others' reports, evaluations, calculations, evaluation details, and recorded measurement data.
  • Provide guidance on technical reports and certification-document processes and accreditation requirements.
  • Evaluate products at customer facilities and witness customer-performed product tests.
  • Assist clients in resolving problems and failures without disclosing proprietary information.
  • Evaluate and qualify companies for certification programs; review customer test methods, systems, product designs, documentation, test equipment, and quality procedures.
  • Provide technical briefings, certification guidance, and training to internal and external customers; answer inquiries about standards and legal requirements.
  • Participate in CSA technical networks and panels and support documentation development as required.
  • Perform certification body report reviews and category audits when qualified.
  • Keep managers and team leaders informed of project status, major problems, and non-compliance.
  • Include technical advisors or certification specialists in unique product and technical discussions.
  • Work with sales to support current clients and develop new client opportunities.
  • Prepare project quotations for cost and time; classify products; determine applicable requirements, tests, standards, samples, and testing methods and locations.
  • Provide client feedback to managers, team leaders, and sales representatives.
  • Explain available product-certification programs and production-control requirements to clients.
  • Prepare laboratory work orders and special-testing documentation, including applicable standards, sample plans, data-collection methods, tables, job hazard analyses, and other instructions.
  • Guide laboratory technicians in applying requirements and data-collection methods correctly.
  • Maintain complete and accurate test data and oversee laboratory tests when required.
  • Analyze test results, determine compliance, and identify reasons for inconsistencies between data and expected results.
  • Compile evaluation records, data, and summary test results into forms, templates, and checklists independently.
  • Interpret test results with minimal guidance and supervision.
  • Troubleshoot electronic equipment and apply knowledge of standards and codes.
  • Participate in CSA continuous-improvement and innovation projects.
  • Recommend new programs and equipment to expand core capabilities.
  • Generate ideas to improve laboratory safety.
  • Guide others on housekeeping of tools, equipment, and work areas.
  • Support and mentor junior staff in clear and accurate communication and responsiveness to clients.
  • Research national and international standards, documentation, bulletins, and technical articles; recommend revisions to improve technical consistency and resolve practice, process, and precedent issues.

TORONTO – CSA Group has announced the opening of an accredited, special-purpose laboratory dedicated to testing and certifying the safety of medical-grade PPE. Until now, there have been no domestic providers of testing and certification services for medical-grade PPE.
