Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years of nursing experience is required.
- A current New Jersey nursing license is required.
- American Heart Association Basic Life Support certification is required.

Responsibilities
- Work with the research team to identify clinical trials beneficial to the patient population.
- Work with nurse navigators to assess potential clinical-trial patients, refer potentially eligible patients to the Research Department, and review physician schedules and patient charts to prescreen inclusion criteria.
- Promote research-based therapies and education to patients.
- Work with clinical research coordinators to develop operational flow plans for each active research protocol.
- Educate, support, and assist patients and families before, during, and after participation in research studies, serving as a link to physicians and supportive services.
- Facilitate and implement multidisciplinary cancer care for new research patients across all disease sites within the Cooper Cancer Institute.
- Serve as liaison between new patients, physicians, and diagnostic services to expedite research-protocol participation; explain the nurse navigator role and triage questions to appropriate disciplines.
- Assess cancer disease processes and treatments, anticipate patient and family needs, identify knowledge gaps, and provide supportive information and teaching that incorporates cultural and spiritual beliefs.
- Facilitate patient participation and control in clinical decision-making while providing emotional and informational support.
- Complete documentation in a timely manner and communicate continuously with the oncology research team.
- Use available databases and other files in a manner understandable and accessible to team members.
- Implement research physician outreach by identifying outreach needs, overseeing outreach plans, and analyzing patient referrals and program growth.
- Work with the Events Coordinator and program physicians to plan and implement research community education programs.
- Attend and participate in disease-specific tumor boards.
- Follow up on research plans agreed upon at tumor board, ensure plans are communicated to patients, and relay written follow-up plans to multidisciplinary and clinical research teams.
- Participate in multidisciplinary rounds and conferences and help coordinate required data for multidisciplinary cancer team conferences.
- Work with Cooper Cancer Institute disciplines to develop, implement, participate in, and evaluate oncology research programs for patients, healthcare professionals, and the community.
- Act as liaison with outside research agencies.
- Develop educational resources for cancer patients and families interested in clinical research.
- Provide education within and outside the Cooper network as needed.
- Provide educational programs and lectures for oncology fellows, surgical residents, medical students, and nurses.
- Assist with onboarding and training new research staff and other Cooper Cancer Institute faculty.
- Work efficiently, remain flexible, and set priorities.
- Back up other qualified research staff during vacations and other absences.
- Perform duties and functions necessary for efficient, economical, and quality operation of the department and system.
- Perform related duties and special projects as assigned or required.
- Participate as a member of the Research Review Committee.
- Act as a liaison and instructor for research staff using Epic.
Desired Qualifications
- Oncology experience is preferred.
- A minimum of 2 years of research experience is preferred.
- Program development experience is preferred.
