Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience is required.
  • Adjuster licensing is required as required by the applicable jurisdiction or jurisdictions handled.
  • A minimum of 5+ years of commercial general liability claims handling experience is required.
  • The candidate must have a strong understanding of commercial general liability coverage, policy interpretation, and jurisdictional differences.
  • The candidate must have experience managing litigated claims and working with defense counsel.
  • The candidate must have knowledge of construction defect, additional insured coverage, and risk transfer strategies.
  • The candidate must be able to assess liability, damages, and exposure in complex loss scenarios.
  • The candidate must have strong negotiation and settlement skills.
  • The candidate must be able to draft coverage correspondence and client reports.
  • The candidate must be proficient in claims systems and Microsoft Office applications.
  • The candidate must demonstrate organization, attention to detail, and time management.
  • The candidate must be able to work independently and collaboratively.
  • The candidate must be able to meet or exceed performance, quality, and compliance metrics.
Responsibilities
  • Independently investigate and manage a full caseload of commercial general liability claims, including premises liability, slip and fall, product liability, construction defect and construction-related losses, and contractual liability exposures.
  • Drive timely claim resolution through proactive file management, strategic planning, diary management, and documentation.
  • Analyze complex policy language, including insuring agreements, endorsements, exclusions, ongoing and completed operations, additional insured provisions, and limits, to determine coverage applicability.
  • Draft clear, defensible coverage position letters, including reservation of rights and denial letters, consistent with jurisdictional requirements and client expectations.
  • Conduct comprehensive liability investigations by reviewing incident reports, contracts, lease agreements, and indemnification provisions.
  • Identify and apply contractual risk transfer provisions.
  • Obtain and evaluate recorded statements, expert opinions, photographs, and surveillance.
  • Evaluate injury severity, medical treatment, and long-term exposure, including medical records, bills, and independent medical evaluations where applicable.
  • Establish, maintain, and adjust reserves in accordance with claim developments and severity exposure.
  • Manage litigated files, including retaining and directing defense counsel.
  • Provide strategic oversight of litigation plans, budgets, pleadings, discovery, and dispositive motions.
  • Participate in mediations, settlement conferences, and trial preparation in alignment with client and organizational strategies.
  • Negotiate settlements within delegated authority while balancing cost containment and risk exposure.
  • Evaluate settlement value based on liability, damages, venue, and litigation risks, and escalate matters that exceed authority.
  • Identify, evaluate, and pursue risk transfer opportunities, including additional insured tenders, contractual indemnity provisions, and subrogation potential.
  • Coordinate with coverage counsel, carriers, and third parties to maximize recovery and proper allocation of liability.
  • Maintain proactive, professional communication with insureds, claimants, brokers, clients, and internal stakeholders.
  • Provide detailed status updates, large loss reports, and claim summaries tailored to client-specific reporting requirements.
  • Maintain thorough, accurate, and timely file documentation to support claim decisions and audit readiness.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable state regulations, client service instructions, and internal audit and quality standards.
  • Participate in internal and external audits, file reviews, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support organizational quality initiatives, audit programs, and operational excellence efforts.
  • Contribute to process improvement, knowledge sharing, and team development activities as needed.

Sedgwick has launched a direct repair programme for heavy equipment, expanding its existing network of over 3,400 contracted body shops for private passenger vehicles. The new service provides carriers with access to 250 certified repair facilities serving 18-wheelers, refrigerated lorries, and specialised vehicles across the US. The programme features electronic integration with Sedgwick's mobile app and digital platform, enabling mobile photo capture, real-time repair tracking, and in-app communication. Carriers receive rapid estimates within 48 hours of inspection, contracted labour rates, and transparent pricing. All facilities use certified heavy equipment technicians. The service aims to reduce repair cycle times whilst keeping policyholders informed throughout the process.
