Requirements
  • A high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Phlebotomy certification from an accredited agency, such as CPT I or II licensing in California.
  • Completion of an approved phlebotomy training course or equivalent.
  • American Heart Association Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation/Basic Life Support certification.
  • At least one year of experience within the last three years as a patient service technician or phlebotomist.
  • Proficiency in blood collection by venipuncture and capillary technique from patients of all age groups, urine drug screen collections, paternity collections, breath and saliva alcohol testing, LCM/Cyber Tools, TestCup, pediatric blood collections, and difficult draws.
  • Ability to sit, stand, walk, lift, squat, bend, twist, and reach above the shoulders during the work shift.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds from floor to waist.
  • Ability to lift up to 20 pounds.
  • Ability to carry up to 40 pounds a reasonable distance.
  • Ability to push or pull with 30 pounds of force.
Responsibilities
  • Perform proper specimen collection and labeling procedures for routine and special procedures.
  • Perform standard laboratory techniques related to phlebotomy, including correcting patient identification; collecting samples according to volume, tube type, temperature, and timing conditions; and collecting specimens for urinalysis, 24-hour urines, toxicology, and microbiological testing of sputum and urine as defined by standard operating procedures.
  • Accession all specimens in the receiving area and ensure their timely transport and distribution to laboratory sections for immediate processing and testing.
  • Contact sectional personnel to transport samples when peak workloads prevent timely delivery.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two to three years of phlebotomist experience in an acute care setting.
