Position Title: Automation & Controls Maintenance Engineer
Location: DuBois, PA
Department: Maintenance
Reports To: Maintenance Manager
Position Overview: The Automation Engineer is responsible for troubleshooting and optimizing automated systems within the manufacturing environment. This role requires a blend of technical expertise and hands-on experience to optimize production processes, enhance efficiency, reduce costs, and improve product quality. The Automation Engineer will collaborate with cross-functional teams to repair and optimize automation solutions and ensure seamless operations across the manufacturing facility.
Key Responsibilities:
Design and Development:
- Design, program, and commission automation systems, including PLCs, robotics, HMIs, SCADA, and other control systems.
- Develop detailed engineering documentation, including electrical schematics, software logic, and control system architectures.
- Collaborate with design and manufacturing teams to ensure automation solutions meet production requirements.
System Integration:
- Integrate automation systems with existing manufacturing equipment and processes.
- Test and troubleshoot automation systems to ensure proper functionality and performance.
Process Optimization:
- Analyze manufacturing processes to identify areas for automation and improvement.
- Implement automation solutions that reduce cycle times, increase throughput, and improve product consistency.
- Conduct root cause analysis on automation-related issues and implement corrective actions.
- Support future intelligent automation driven by AI and IoT connected equipment.
Maintenance and Support:
- Electro/mechanical troubleshooting and repair on automated production lines.
- Provide ongoing support and maintenance for automation systems.
- Develop and implement preventive maintenance programs for automated equipment.
- Train maintenance personnel in troubleshooting and maintaining automation systems.
Compliance and Safety:
- Ensure automation systems comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
- Develop and maintain risk assessments and safety protocols for automated processes.
- Participate in safety audits and implement necessary corrective actions.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or associate’s degree in electrical engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Automation Engineering, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in automation engineering, preferably within a manufacturing environment.
- Proficiency in PLC programming (e.g., Siemens, Allen-Bradley) and HMI/SCADA systems.
- Strong electro/mechanical troubleshooting and repair skills within a light/medium manufacturing environment.
- Experience with robotics, motion control, and vision systems is a plus.
- Strong understanding of manufacturing processes and industrial control systems.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with Industry 4.0 technologies and concepts.
- Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma principles.
- Knowledge of safety standards (e.g., OSHA, ISO) and regulatory requirements.
- Project management experience and ability to lead cross-functional teams.
Working Conditions:
- This position may require working in a manufacturing environment with exposure to loud noises, hazardous materials, and machinery.
- Occasional travel may be required to support OEM integration, training and at other manufacturing facilities.
Salary range:
$62,000.00 - $99,000.00
