Requirements
  • An Associate's Degree from an AMA Respiratory Therapy Program is required.
  • The candidate must be licensed by the Arizona Board of Respiratory Care Examiners.
  • The candidate must hold National Board for Respiratory Care Registered Respiratory Therapist certification.
  • The candidate must hold Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, and Pediatric Advanced Life Support certifications.
  • The candidate must obtain Neonatal Resuscitation Program certification within 90 days of hire or before providing care in a special care nursery.
  • The candidate must have two years of acute care experience.
  • The candidate must be able to physically report to the site when call is required.
Responsibilities
  • Provide comprehensive respiratory care services to patients across all age groups and acuity levels.
  • Assess, treat, and manage patients with acute and chronic cardiopulmonary disorders.
  • Perform advanced respiratory procedures, including mechanical ventilation management, arterial blood gas analysis, and airway management, using advanced modes of ventilation.
  • Ensure ventilator-associated pneumonia protocol compliance.
  • Operate specialty equipment, including nitric oxide delivery systems.
  • Complete billing paperwork.
  • Document assessments, interventions, electronic medical record entries, and patient responses accurately and promptly.
  • Perform lead responsibilities in the absence of the lead Respiratory Therapist.
  • Coordinate daily staffing assignments and manage workflow distribution.
  • Address and resolve operational issues and staff concerns during assigned shifts.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for interdisciplinary teams and hospital administration.
  • Make critical decisions regarding resource allocation and patient prioritization.
  • Assist in developing, implementing, and evaluating competency assessments.
  • Conduct hands-on competency validation for respiratory therapy staff.
  • Identify knowledge or skill gaps and provide targeted education and remediation.
  • Maintain documentation of competency assessments according to department standards.
  • Support annual competency requirements and specialized training processes.
  • Orient and train new respiratory therapists during onboarding.
  • Develop and implement individualized learning plans for orientees.
  • Provide ongoing mentorship and clinical guidance to less experienced staff.
  • Collaborate with the education department to ensure successful completion of orientation programs.
  • Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Conduct chart audits to ensure compliance with documentation standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Review and analyze clinical practice patterns and outcomes.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and best-practice implementation.
  • Collaborate with leadership to develop corrective action plans when needed.
  • Assemble, disassemble, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, clean, and perform minor repairs on equipment.
  • Educate patients on therapies and prescribed medications or therapies before discharge and document patient understanding.
  • Report safety-related incidents promptly through the SER tool.
  • Attend safety-related training programs and perform work safely.
  • Monitor the work environment for potential safety issues and ensure others are also working safely.
  • Adhere to regulatory and organizational standards affecting patient care and safety, as well as hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
  • Keep required certifications and licenses current and valid before expiration.
  • Comply with state and federal regulations and company policies affecting the area of responsibility.
  • Complete mandatory company modules and required job-specific training within the specified timeframe.
Desired Qualifications
  • A Bachelor's Degree is preferred.
  • One specialty credential is preferred, such as Advanced Critical Care Specialty, Certified Pulmonary Function Technologist, Neonatal Pediatric Specialty, Certified Asthma Educator, Pulmonary Disease Educator Certification, or American Heart Association Certified Instructor.
