About the job

Requirements
  • Experienced candidates should be able to write strong TypeScript across frontend or backend, ideally both.
  • Experienced candidates should be able to ship production React applications or TypeScript services with minimal hand-holding.
  • Experienced candidates should use event-driven design when appropriate.
  • Experienced candidates should build for observability and use tooling to identify the cause of production issues.
  • Experienced candidates should communicate design decisions clearly in writing or diagrams without needing follow-up.
  • Experienced candidates should avoid over-engineering and build what the problem requires.
  • Junior candidates should provide a side project they are proud of and describe how it has held up if it is live.
  • Junior candidates should have solid TypeScript fundamentals and be comfortable modifying existing code to follow a pattern.
  • Junior candidates should have hands-on experience with React or Node, whether commercial or otherwise.
  • Junior candidates should understand production readiness, even if they are still learning to achieve it without supervision.
  • Junior candidates should debug methodically, ask for help before becoming stuck for hours, and show interest in what happens to code after it ships.
  • Candidates should take responsibility for their work, flag problems early, and be willing to work across more than one area in a small team.
Responsibilities
  • Build and extend React interfaces used daily by airport operations staff.
  • Write TypeScript backend services that communicate with MongoDB Atlas and integrate with AWS services including ECS, Lambda, EventBridge, and SQS.
  • Build event-based systems rather than request-chained systems.
  • Design for observability and use tooling to identify the actual cause of production issues.
  • Write infrastructure as code using AWS CDK rather than configuring it through a console.
  • Improve the codebase and its documentation.
  • Own features end-to-end within a cross-functional team, including design, building, shipping, and support.

What believers are saying

  • Phungela partnership, announced January 2026, opens AeroCloud's first formal African market push.
  • Biometrics US Exit launched in 2026, expanding AeroCloud beyond core airport operations software.
  • Leeds Bradford and Des Moines deployments validate product traction with real airports.

What critics are saying

  • Legacy airport incumbents like SITA and Amadeus own switching costs and procurement relationships.

  • If major airport deployments stall, AeroCloud's small customer base can starve growth.

What makes Aerocloud unique

  • AeroCloud operates a unified platform across 80 airports and 78 airlines worldwide.
  • Its 360-degree curb-to-gate suite combines iAM, Optic, CUPPS, billing, and biometrics.
  • John Nicholas became CTO in January 2026 to scale product engineering fast.
