About the job

Requirements
  • At least 7 years of controls experience in programming, start-up, and commissioning of complex systems such as central plants, air handling units, and evaporative cooling and humidification systems. A bachelor's degree or trade certification in a related field plus at least 3 years of controls industry experience may be accepted instead.
  • Experience in critical environments and working knowledge of critical facility operations and procedure-based work.
  • Theoretical and practical understanding of control equipment and systems, including design, maintenance, troubleshooting, testing, and construction.
  • Working knowledge of the mechanical, electrical, and life safety systems found in critical facilities.
  • Fluency in sequences of operations, including critically reviewing them, identifying gaps and failure modes, and testing whether systems behave as written.
  • Experience interpreting blueprints, CAD drawings, and controls diagrams.
  • Rigor in turnover documentation, especially programming backups, configuration files, and version control.
  • Ability to work within a construction team while maintaining operational standards in a highly collaborative, cross-functional environment.
Responsibilities
  • Review controls designs—including building management systems/building automation systems, electrical power monitoring systems, supervisory control and data acquisition, programmable logic controller-based plant controls, cooling distribution unit and cooling plant controls, and generator, uninterruptible power supply, and switchgear controller integration—from an operations perspective. Review sequences of operations, failure-mode and fail-safe behavior, network/controller loss response, manual and local overrides, point lists and instrumentation adequacy, alarm philosophy and prioritization, graphics clarity, and operational technology network architecture and access control; challenge designs that do not provide operators with adequate system information or recovery capability.
  • Provide quality assurance and quality control oversight of controls scopes for new construction and retrofits; review vendor proposals and programming, oversee system configuration and component upgrades, witness factory tests, hold controls vendors to Hut 8 standards and approved sequences, and ensure system modifications follow change control.
  • Inspect controls installations at key construction milestones and flag operability and quality issues to the mechanical, electrical, and plumbing superintendent early.
  • Witness Level 3–5 commissioning of controls and automation, including point-to-point verification, sequence-of-operations testing, controller, server, and network failover, alarm verification, trend validation, and integrated testing across mechanical, electrical, and controls systems, including loss-of-communication and loss-of-building-management-system scenarios. Review programming during commissioning, record operational findings in the commissioning log with clear acceptance criteria, and personally verify closure.
  • Verify controls turnover packages, including as-built sequences of operation, point lists, control and network drawings, programming backups and configuration files under version control, transferred licenses and credentials, alarm setpoint and priority matrices, trend baselines, spare controllers and critical modules, and preventive maintenance program inputs such as backup routines, firmware updates, and panel power health. Confirm that backups can be restored.
  • Provide technical controls training and support to Facility Operations staff and validate that operator training enables staff to use the systems effectively.
  • Feed operational lessons into Hut 8 controls standards, point naming and alarm conventions, and future project bases of design; work with other Hut 8 sites and teams to apply standards across the portfolio.
Desired Qualifications
  • Data center experience.
  • Programmable logic controller programming experience.
  • Information technology or networking certification.
  • Equipment field service engineering or manufacturer representative experience.
  • Demonstrated use of artificial intelligence tools to improve workflows with measurable efficiency gains or quality improvements.

Hut 8 acquires bankrupt Poolin's Texas data centres for $140M

Hut 8 has acquired bankrupt crypto miner Poolin's two Texas data centre facilities for $140 million, according to court filings. The winning bid secures the "Pyote" and "Tarbush" sites, adding to Hut 8's existing Beacon Point campus in Texas. Hut 8's offer was nearly triple the $52 million opening bid, beating out competing offers that reached $137 million. Poolin filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in July after winding down its Texas crypto mining operations. The acquisition expands Hut 8's data centre portfolio as the former Bitcoin miner pivots to data centre operations. The company now has 949 MW of contracted artificial intelligence infrastructure capacity, representing an estimated $26.6 billion in expected contract value. Hut 8 stock has risen 170% over the past 12 months.

Hut 8 stock jumps 5% as Nvidia backs $35B Anthropic-Lambda cloud deal

Hut 8 Corp. shares jumped nearly 5% in overnight trading Monday after reports emerged that the company will develop a data center as part of a $35 billion cloud-computing deal between Anthropic and Nvidia Corp. According to The Wall Street Journal, Hut 8 will develop the data center in Nueces County, Texas. The company signed an agreement with Nvidia weeks ago to secure capacity. Lambda will use Hut's data center to plug in chips bought from Nvidia, whilst Nvidia will hold the lease. The deal adds to Hut 8's growing portfolio. The company is already developing data centers for Anthropic to use Google's tensor processing units, backed by financial guarantees from Google. In July, Hut 8 announced 15-year leases for its entire 700-megawatt Texas campus to an unnamed company.
