Requirements
  • The candidate must have earned a doctorate degree with a demonstrated record in faculty affairs and experience in planning, forecasting, cost and financial analysis, budget management and reporting at an accredited institution of higher education.
  • The candidate must have seven years of progressively responsible administrative experience in academic leadership, including a minimum of five years in budget management and leadership and a minimum of three years of administrative leadership in academic affairs with demonstrated experience managing faculty and staff recruitment, contract processing, tenure and promotion, post-tenure reviews, and faculty annual development reviews.
  • The candidate must have a record of successful teaching, service, and scholarship or creative activity, earned tenured faculty status, and significant faculty leadership experience.
  • The candidate must have experience working with complex divisional budgets and financial operations at a senior level at an institution of higher education, experience with human resources policies, and knowledge of state policies.
  • The candidate must have high-level organizational skills and the ability to prioritize and multitask effectively in a fast-paced, detail-oriented, and time-sensitive environment, anticipate next steps, and execute independently.
  • The candidate must have successful analytical and project management skills and experience with budget management systems, financial software, and an enterprise resource planning system.
  • The candidate must have experience reviewing and assessing expectations and standards for successful faculty reappointment, tenure, and promotion.
  • The candidate must be able to manage stressful situations with tact and diplomacy and use sound judgment when handling sensitive or confidential information.
  • The candidate must have experience supervising and mentoring staff and the ability to lead individuals and teams.
  • The candidate must be an active and contributing member of a leadership team in a higher education institution.
  • The candidate must be an ethical and strategic leader able to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, administrators, staff, and other constituents.
  • The candidate must have excellent intercultural, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills, along with strong presentation and listening capabilities.
Responsibilities
  • Assist the Provost and academic leadership team in recruiting and retaining excellent faculty at all ranks.
  • Provide continuity of support to faculty throughout the lifecycle of appointment, periodic review, tenure, promotion, sabbatical leave, and other professional development opportunities outlined in the Faculty Handbook, while ensuring organization and timeliness in personnel-action business processes.
  • Supervise position management for librarians, lecturers, student assistants, graduate assistants, teaching associates, and other academic employees, including personnel policies and record keeping, professional development, performance management, labor relations, succession planning, and employee recognition programs.
  • Oversee budget-related contractual issues for faculty and staff appointments within the Division's support units and work with deans and department chairs on faculty workload for undergraduate and graduate programs.
  • Work with the Faculty Senate Executive Committee and other leaders to ensure consistent application of Faculty Handbook policies.
  • Assist the Provost with executive searches and advise on executive staffing decisions.
  • Supervise the Provost's Office work to develop, communicate, operationalize, and monitor the annual budget cycle and capital planning for units within Academic Affairs.
  • Oversee budget allocations for academic colleges and academic support units, working with deans, directors, and department chairs to ensure transparency and collaboration in developing budget models.
  • Provide tracking data and analysis with key performance indicators to ensure effective budget management across Academic Affairs.
  • Collaborate with the Provost's Office, the University Budget Director, and other senior leaders to evaluate enrollment projections and provide forecasting models for divisional revenue.
  • Work with the Provost and the Assistant Vice President for the Office of Planning, Analysis and Accountability to assess the feasibility of divisional initiatives, projects, capital planning, staffing requests, and other activities for alignment with the university strategic plan and Academic Master Plan.
  • Oversee financial resources required by new program proposals and forecasts of potential revenue generation.
  • Collaborate with the University Budget Office on central budget planning and initiatives, providing high-level leadership aligned with the strategic priorities established by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • Serve on university-wide committees and advisory bodies as assigned by the Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs.
  • Undertake other duties as assigned.
