About the job
- A college or university graduate with 7 years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of skills and experience generally expected for specified technical roles.
- Have a solid understanding of the estimating process.
- Use advanced techniques and knowledge within the function and apply diversified knowledge of applicable principles and practices across a broad variety of assignments.
- Make independent decisions regarding complexities and methods.
- Work with supervision and guidance focused largely on overall objectives, critical issues, new concepts, and policy matters.
- Act independently as a liaison to groups within and outside the organization on matters pertaining to the function.
- Comply with company policies and procedures.
- Follow safety and health systems practices, including required RK Mechanical Orientation training; notify a supervisor of hazards and stop work when unsafe conditions are present.
- Provide complete and accurate trade-specific estimates supporting mechanical and structural steel.
- Assemble the Bid Tab with estimates and vendor and subcontractor quotes.
- Coordinate and clarify scope internally and externally.
- Identify value-engineering opportunities and address minor design or scope gaps.
- Review project documents and identify the scope of work.
- Perform material, labor, and equipment takeoffs.
- Walk difficult projects and identify and document difficult or non-standard conditions.
- Coordinate with the Preconstruction Team to identify and fill scope gaps.
- Clarify scope with the General Contractor and Engineer.
- Obtain quotes and coordinate and qualify scope with vendors and subcontractors.
- Assemble the Bid Tab in a timely manner.
- Provide value-engineering ideas.
- Verify estimate accuracy by comparing data with similar bids.
- File electronic documents.
- Participate in the turnover process to Operations.
- Act as a liaison between Estimating and Field Operations.
- Follow up on past awards.
