Requirements
  • Experience with semiconductor equipment hardware and process interactions.
  • Experience with simulation and modelling tools such as COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, OpenFOAM, or Python.
  • Strong knowledge and utilisation of design of experiments (DOE) and statistical analysis.
  • Familiarity with failure analysis and defect characterization.
  • Hands-on experience with plasma etch equipment and metrology such as scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
  • Experience with endpoint methods and optical emission spectroscopy (OES).
  • Experience with design of experiments (DOE), 8D problem solving, and process optimization.
  • An MSc or PhD in Engineering, Materials Science, or Physics is ideally held, with a PhD preferred; equivalent experience is accepted.
  • Experience with semiconductor processes, plasma modelling, computational fluid dynamics (CFD), or digital twins is advantageous.
  • Experience with process simulation using COMSOL, ANSYS, MATLAB/Simulink, OpenFOAM, or Python is advantageous.
Responsibilities
  • Lead development and qualification of advanced plasma process technologies.
  • Drive process optimization to meet customer specifications.
  • Develop and validate simulation models for complex engineering systems.
  • Perform computational fluid dynamics, plasma, thermal, electromagnetic, or multi-physics modelling.
  • Analyse simulation results and correlate them with experimental data.
  • Lead root cause analysis (RCA) for reliability issues.
  • Mentor engineers and define best practices.
  • Interface with customers for demonstrations, qualifications, and issue resolution.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams including hardware, software, new product introduction (NPI), and manufacturing.
  • Liaise with field teams to ensure successful transfer of processes to the field.
  • Establish process control strategies and a statistical process control (SPC) framework.
  • Lead key programmable logic controller (PLC) etch projects.
  • Deliver on etch roadmap targets.
  • Research published work relevant to process development.
  • Write invention disclosures and patent applications.
  • Write technical papers for publication at conferences and seminars.
  • Communicate results and ideas to management, co-workers, and other teams across the business.
  • Apply physics-based and computational models to accelerate product development and technology innovation.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams to solve technical challenges, optimize system performance, and provide data-driven insights that guide design decisions.

Chip equipment makers eye $229B windfall as AI drives 2nm expansion

Global chip equipment sales are forecast to reach a record $229.5 billion in 2028, according to industry trade group SEMI. Four companies dominate different stages of chipmaking: ASML makes lithography machines that print circuit patterns, Applied Materials and Lam Research produce tools that deposit and carve chip layers, whilst KLA specialises in inspection equipment. ASML holds a monopoly on extreme ultraviolet machines used for advanced chips, capturing roughly a quarter of chipmaker capital spending. Applied Materials trades at about 29 times forward earnings, the cheapest of the four. Lam recently posted its highest gross margin in 20 years. KLA trades at approximately 36 times forward earnings, the priciest valuation in the group. All four companies hold Strong Buy or Buy ratings from analysts.
