About the job
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- At least 2 years of experience maintaining, repairing, installing, and operating commercial heating, ventilation, refrigeration, and air conditioning systems is required.
- An EPA Type II Refrigeration License is required.
- An HVAC course or equivalent is required.
- A valid driver’s license compliant with the REAL ID Act is required, or the candidate must be willing and able to obtain one.
- The candidate must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- The candidate must be available for overtime, including nights and weekends.
- U.S. citizenship is required to obtain and maintain access to military installations.
- The candidate must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and perform duties involving use of hands, reaching, talking, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, standing, twisting, stooping, climbing ladders, and entering confined spaces.
- The candidate must be able to work indoors and outdoors in varied temperatures and weather conditions, including some extreme conditions.
- The candidate must work safely with tools, equipment, and supplies used to repair HVAC equipment, including personal protective equipment.
- The candidate must be able to work independently and read schematic diagrams.
- The candidate must understand the refrigeration cycle and be able to troubleshoot mechanical issues and recommend repair strategies.
- Maintain, repair, replace, and modernize HVAC systems to achieve regulated climatic conditions.
- Diagnose, test, and correct malfunctions in commercial HVAC systems using efficient repair methods.
- Work on split-package, residential-style, light-commercial, mini-split, variable air volume, and air handling unit systems.
- Use a multimeter to check voltage.
- Use a torch for brazing.
- Prepare work orders and cost-material estimates.
- Assist with training lower-level workers in mechanical repair techniques when needed.
- An EPA Universal Refrigeration License is preferred.
