Requirements
  • Valid Transport Canada 500T Certificate of Competency for Master 500T Gross Tonnage Domestic.
  • Prior experience as a 500T Captain in a similar environment.
  • Valid Seafarers Medical Certificate.
  • Valid MED/STCW certificates.
  • Valid ROC-MC certification.
  • Advanced firefighting certification.
  • Marine Advanced First Aid certification.
  • Ability to clear a drug and alcohol test before hiring and potentially undergo random tests during employment with prior notice.
  • Excellent comprehension and command of the English language, written and verbal.
  • Ability to perform repetitive physical activities including walking, kneeling, reaching, and lifting light to medium weights up to 20 to 50 pounds.
  • Ability to work in environmental elements including extreme weather conditions.
Responsibilities
  • Operate the passenger transfers vessel and safely transfer personnel, responding to emergencies as required.
  • Ensure the safety of life and the vessel and prevent marine pollution in accordance with company health and safety guidelines, policies, and procedures.
  • Operate the vessel safely in accordance with Transport Canada and Canadian Standards Association regulations and requirements.
  • Operate efficiently while minimizing fuel and supplies waste.
  • Ensure compliance with local project rules issued by the client and with regulatory and seafaring standard operating procedures and policies.
  • Maintain the required inventory of fuel and ship spares.
  • Complete pre-departure checks and inspections at regular intervals.
  • Provide daily vessel reports covering fuel, labour, and other requirements for policy and client billing, including damage and incident reporting.
  • Complete handover logs, documents, reports, and action requests and ensure vessel handover is completed with the incoming captain and crew at the end of the shift.
  • Oversee and assist with day-to-day general maintenance.
  • Ensure the safety, health, and welfare of all crew and passengers on board.
  • Ensure crew levels are sufficient for successful operations under the vessel’s Safe Manning requirements.
  • Provide verbal and written performance reviews of all crew to the supervisor.
  • Support crew skills development through training, development of additional competencies, and mentorship.
  • Work cooperatively with the team by contributing to operations and sharing expertise and knowledge.
  • Represent Bridgemans in dealings with the public, management, and team members.
Desired Qualifications
  • Bridge watch rating, SVMO, and Simulated Electronic Navigation Limited certifications are considered assets.
