Requirements
  • Social service experience.
  • Strong computer skills and the ability to learn Salvation Army-specific software, including Link2Feed.
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification.
  • A clear criminal record check.
  • Completion of high school plus additional courses in facilities management or equivalent.
  • Previous experience in reception or general administrative work.
  • Effective written and oral communication in English.
  • Effective time-management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to work independently, unsupervised, and within a team environment.
  • Customer-service skills.
  • De-escalation techniques acquired through verbal judo or NVCI training.
  • Ability to work under stressful circumstances and multitask effectively.
  • Awareness of issues involved in Aboriginal and cross-cultural ministry.
  • Willingness to adhere to the Salvation Army mission statement and values.
Responsibilities
  • Answer the telephone and refer calls to the appropriate departments.
  • Deliver messages as required.
  • Receive deliveries and donations, sort them, perform light lifting, and store food donations.
  • Receive general-public walk-ins and refer them to the appropriate department.
  • Maintain cleanliness and tidiness of reception areas.
  • Distribute food hampers and clothing vouchers and complete the required paperwork and data entry.
  • Arrange for appropriate disposal of unusable non-monetary donations.
  • Receive, sort, and organize non-monetary donations or purchased products following direction from a caseworker or supervisor.
  • Stock and distribute toiletries to clients.
  • Let clients in to use laundry and shower facilities.
  • Maintain client and facility safety.
  • Lift and move boxes as required.
  • Work cooperatively with volunteers.
  • Provide crisis intervention as required.
  • Assist with seasonal programs, including Christmas, Kettles, and food drives.
  • Prepare food hampers for clients.
  • Maintain food-bank cleanliness, tidiness, and organization.
  • Refer clients to other community resources where appropriate.
  • Record statistics for the Community Services Department and Corps.
  • File documents for the Community Services Department.
  • Receive, record, and distribute mail.
  • Accept walk-in monetary donations and provide temporary receipts to donors.
  • Support leadership staff with correspondence, filing, and scanning.
  • Perform other duties assigned by the Community Services Supervisor, Executive Director, or Corps Officer.
