Responsibilities
  • Supervise the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during the assigned tour of duty.
  • Assist the Director of Nursing Services in directing the day-to-day functions of the nursing department.
  • Develop, maintain, and update written nursing service policies and procedures.
  • Ensure that nursing service personnel comply with the Nursing Service Procedures Manual and their job descriptions.
  • Prepare reports and recommendations concerning the operation of the nursing service department.
  • Coordinate nursing services with other resident services to ensure continuity of care.
  • Participate in the facility’s quality assurance program and authorized government surveys.
  • Review and update resident discharge plans and assist with the nursing services portion of those plans.
  • Meet with nursing staff and support personnel to plan departmental services, programs, and activities.
  • Admit, transfer, and discharge residents as required.
  • Complete accident and incident reports as necessary.
  • Attend facility committee meetings and prepare nursing service reports for committees.
  • Provide information to the Quality Assurance and Assessment Committee and participate in Care Plan Committee activities.
  • Implement recommendations from established committees as instructed by the Director.
  • Ensure adequate licensed nurse and certified nursing assistant staffing for the assigned tour of duty.
  • Develop work assignments and delegate administrative authority and accountability to Charge Nurses.
  • Ensure that nurse aide trainees are enrolled in or have graduated from approved training programs and are supervised by a licensed nurse.
  • Make daily rounds to verify that nursing personnel perform assignments according to nursing standards.
  • Monitor absenteeism and report staffing problem areas.
  • Review personnel complaints and grievances and report them to the Director.
  • Conduct shift meetings to identify and correct problem areas and improve services.
  • Review and evaluate the department workforce and make recommendations to the Director.
  • Participate in employee performance evaluations, determine shift staffing requirements, and make recommendations concerning dismissals and transfers.
  • Administer departmental disciplinary action fairly and without discrimination.
  • Report occupational exposures, suspected fraud, and information-security violations according to facility procedures.
  • Inform nursing personnel of new admissions and ensure rooms are ready for admissions.
  • Greet and escort newly admitted residents as necessary.
  • Make rounds with physicians and encourage timely completion of physician notes and orders.
  • Consult with residents, families, and physicians regarding care, treatment, and rehabilitation.
  • Notify physicians and next of kin of changes in residents’ conditions.
  • Visit residents daily to observe and evaluate physical and emotional status.
  • Provide direct nursing care as necessary.
  • Start intravenous lines and obtain sputum, urine, and other specimens for laboratory testing as ordered.
  • Take temperature, pulse, respirations, and blood pressure measurements as necessary.
  • Review nurses’ notes and ensure care is provided according to residents’ wishes and care plans.
  • Monitor seriously ill residents with the Charge Nurse.
  • Authorize restraints when necessary and according to facility policies.
  • Monitor medication administration, storage, control, medication passes, and treatment schedules.
  • Review medication cards for completeness, order accuracy, and compliance with stop-order policies.
  • Inspect treatment areas and ensure nursing work areas and resident care rooms are clean, safe, and sanitary.
  • Ensure that residents unable to call for help are checked frequently.
  • Meet with residents and family members and report problems to the Director.
  • Arrange transportation for discharged residents and notify family members of deaths as necessary.
  • Participate in developing, planning, conducting, and scheduling nursing in-service training.
  • Assist with annual facility training programs covering Occupational Safety and Health Administration requirements, tuberculosis, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act requirements, abuse prevention, safety, and infection control.
  • Assist with clinical supervision for nurse aide trainees.
  • Assist in developing safety standards and identifying tasks involving potential blood and body fluid exposure.
  • Ensure availability and proper use and disposal of personal protective equipment.
  • Monitor staff compliance with safety regulations, hand hygiene, infection control, isolation, fire safety, and disaster preparedness procedures.
  • Participate in developing and maintaining the infection control program.
  • Ensure safe operation of nursing equipment and adequate supplies of medications, medical supplies, and equipment.
  • Recommend equipment and supply needs and assist with preventive maintenance programs.
  • Participate in developing preliminary and comprehensive resident assessments and written care plans.
  • Review resident care plans, nurses’ notes, medical treatments, and nursing treatments for compliance with residents’ needs and wishes.
  • Assist with Minimum Data Set planning, scheduling, revision, and implementation of Resident Assessment Protocols and Triggers.
  • Recommend adjustments to nursing services and equipment needs to the Director.
  • Report suspected or known fraud involving false billings, cost reports, or kickbacks.
Desired Qualifications
  • Two or more years of experience in a long-term care facility is preferred.
  • Knowledge and experience with PCC is preferred.

PACS Group has appointed Carey P. Hendrickson as chief financial officer, effective 27 April 2026. Hendrickson brings nearly four decades of financial leadership across healthcare, senior living and media sectors. Most recently, Hendrickson served as CFO of U.S. Physical Therapy, overseeing 779 outpatient clinics across 44 states. PACS Group has announced that co-founder and chief financial officer Mark Hancock will retire on 30 June 2026. He will continue serving on the company's board of directors as vice chairman. Hancock co-founded PACS in 2013 with Jason Murray, starting with two post-acute care facilities in San Diego. Dr Conway currently serves as CEO of Optum, UnitedHealth Group's health services division with revenues exceeding $200 billion.
