About the job
- Nursing Assistant Certification in Long Term Care in New York State, completion of a Certified Nursing Assistant program at BOCES, or completion of a 100-hour Certified Nursing Assistant approved program.
- A valid and current certificate from New York State is required.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
- Knowledge of safety and infection control policies is required.
- Ability to interpret medical terminology is required.
- Assist with resident admissions, including reception, preparation, and data collection.
- Provide direct resident care, including personal hygiene, safety, comfort, skin care, and anticipating resident needs.
- Prepare residents for meals, assist with feeding, and distribute fluids and nourishment or snacks.
- Transport residents between facility areas and during discharge.
- Collect and transport specimens.
- Respond to call bells and alarms promptly.
- Ensure personal alarms are in place and functioning according to each resident’s plan of care.
- Communicate relevant changes in residents’ conditions to the nurse.
- Record intake, output, bowel movements, vital signs, toileting, range of motion, ambulation, restraint use, nutrition, activities of daily living care, security device bracelets, showers or bathing, and skin checks according to facility policy.
- Assist the nurse in preparing residents for examinations, treatments, diagnostic tests, and X-rays.
- Apply and release restraints appropriately for activities.
- Help maintain a clean and safe environment for residents and coworkers using appropriate safety practices.
- Previous experience is preferred.
- Knowledge of computer systems and/or prior clerical experience is preferred.
