What believers are saying

  • Kinder Foundation pledged $27 million for MacGregor Park, validating HPB's fundraising machine.
  • Harris County Precinct One added a $7.4 million commitment on July 20, 2026.
  • City Council approved $11 million for 25 neighborhood parks on July 15, 2026.

What critics are saying

  • HPB relies on relentless fundraising; MacGregor Park still needs additional dollars in 2026.

  • If donors tire or city priorities shift, Houston's greenways pipeline stalls for years.

What makes Houston Parks Board unique

  • Bayou Greenways gives HPB a citywide trail-and-bayou platform competitors cannot copy.
  • HPB bundles city funding, philanthropy, and partnerships into one delivery engine.
  • The March 2026 Let's Play Houston program expands parks through community-led capital stacking.
