Requirements
  • At least eighteen (18) years of age at date of application.
  • Citizen of the United States of America.
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Possession of a valid Class C driver's license or equivalent from another state.
  • Possession of a Texas Commission on Fire Protection Certification as a basic structural firefighter and Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Certification as an EMT
  • Possession of, or ability to complete the requirements for a Texas Department of State Health Services (TDSHS) Paramedic certification within established timeframe.
  • Must obtain a Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) Airport Identification/Access Badge (badge) in accordance with Department of Homeland Security Transportation Security Administration (TSA) requirements in Chapter 49 of the Code of Federal Regulations Part 1500 et al., and DFW Airport’s Airport Security Program within thirty (30) days from date of employment and maintain qualification for a SIDA badge upon each badge renewal.
  • This is a designated safety sensitive position as defined in DFW Airport’s Drug and Alcohol Administrative Policy and Procedure. Applicants selected for this position will be required to pass a drug test prior to employment and to submit to drug screening on a random basis during the length of their employment in the safety sensitive position.
  • Possession of, or the ability to complete the requirements for a Texas State certification in basic structural and aircraft rescue fire fighting as prescribed by the Texas Commission on Fire Protection.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain an FBI Criminal Justice Information System (CJIS) clearance.
Responsibilities
  • Responds to calls and performs general fire/rescue work including but not limited to emergency medical scenes, fire incidents, environmental and hazardous materials incidents, technical rescue incidents, search and rescue operations and other fire service related emergency requests to all locations on the airport and off the airport in support of mutual aid agreements as needed.
  • Performs structural and aircraft fire rescue duties including but not limited to responding to alarms, deploying and connecting hoses, raising and climbing ladders, ventilating structures, operating extrication equipment, rescuing victims at automobile accidents, industrial accidents, burning aircraft and/or buildings, and renders emergency medical care when necessary.
  • Performs as an emergency equipment driver: inspects, drives, and maintains automotive fire fighting fire/rescue apparatus and related equipment.
  • Operates a Mobile Intensive Care Unit and performs the duties of a paramedic responding to medical emergencies to treat patients according to medical protocol established by the Department contracted Medical Control provider; transports patients to a medical facility; and coordinates activities related to a disaster response including but not limited to triage, patient treatment, patient tracking and transport.
  • Maintains station, grounds and facilities.
  • Performs as an instructor for in-station training.
  • Develops pre-fire plans for airport buildings.
  • Provides continuous monitoring for hazards in emergency weather conditions.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Fire Chief.
