Requirements
  • Completion of formal training in an approved school of radiologic technology.
  • Maintain current New York State licensure, American Registry of Radiologic Technologists certification, and Basic Life Support certification with continuing education credits as required.
  • Band Two requires a minimum of 18 months of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment, with at least 6 months dedicated to the University of Rochester Medical Center Imaging Sciences Department.
  • Band Two technologists must be certified in Computed Tomography and capable of performing all Computed Tomography-related duties.
  • Band Three requires a minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional work experience as a specialist in Computed Tomography in a clinical or hospital environment.
  • Band Three technologists must be certified in Computed Tomography and satisfy the requirements for a Band Two Certified CT Technologist.
  • Band Three technologists should be comfortable operating the various platforms within the University of Rochester Computed Tomography environment.
Responsibilities
  • Perform Computed Tomography examinations by following and verifying referring providers' orders and complying with Imaging Sciences department and governing-body requirements.
  • Identify patient service requirements.
  • Educate patients and families regarding procedures or treatments.
  • Prepare patients for radiological and Computed Tomography procedures by positioning them, adjusting immobilization devices, and moving equipment into position.
  • Adjust equipment controls to set exposure factors.
  • Apply imaging techniques appropriate to the patient's age, ability to understand the procedure, sensory needs, and ability to cooperate.
  • Produce high-quality images and prepare and present them with pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate documentation.
  • Maintain the production and quality of Computed Tomography images by following established standards, orders, protocols, and procedures.
  • Practice radiation protection techniques, including beam-restrictive devices, patient shielding, exposure factors, and automatic exposure controls.
  • Perform and evaluate equipment quality-control measurements.
  • Troubleshoot equipment issues and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
  • Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors and adhere to safety policies.
  • Perform I-stats and pregnancy tests, start intravenous lines, scan patients, inject intravenous contrast, prepare oral contrast, complete paperwork and computer work, and discharge patients with appropriate post-Computed Tomography instructions.
  • At an advanced level, train new employees or lead day-to-day work activities.
  • Band Three technologists precept newly hired technologists by orienting them to equipment, imaging routines and procedures, computer programs and software, and departmental and hospital policies.
  • Act as a subject-matter expert in downtime procedures and serve as a super-user when new equipment or programs are introduced.
  • Mentor existing employees through one-on-one assistance in conjunction with the supervisor.
  • As a designated lead, assist the shift supervisor or determine workflow and staff assignments in the supervisor's absence.
  • Provide performance-evaluation input to the section supervisor and input to Computed Tomography management for departmental goals and objectives.
Desired Qualifications
  • Band Three experience with 1 year dedicated to the University of Rochester Medical Center Imaging Sciences Department is preferred.
