About the Job

Requirements

  • Have 4+ years of hands-on experience in systems engineering and/or system architecture for complex mechatronic, defence, aerospace, or autonomous systems.
  • Have practical expertise in Model-Based Systems Engineering methodologies and SysML, alongside a strong foundation in requirements management.
  • Be comfortable working in a laboratory environment, reading electrical schematics, navigating three-dimensional computer-aided design models, and using basic diagnostic tools.
  • Have in-depth knowledge of bridging physical engineering realities, including electromechanical design, embedded systems, and sensors, with advanced software and artificial intelligence architectures.
  • Have a university degree in Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, Aerospace, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Be business fluent in English.
  • Be willing to travel.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and own the overarching system architecture for complex, multi-domain platforms such as drones, sensor pods, and ground support systems, partitioning them into manageable hardware and software subsystems.
  • Act as the primary owner of the system model, using Model-Based Systems Engineering tools such as Cameo and Enterprise Architect, and SysML to document system behaviours, state machines, and interfaces.
  • Participate in the physical integration of mechatronic systems in the laboratory and field, working directly with hardware and software to test, troubleshoot, and validate performance.
  • Lead multidisciplinary trade-off analyses, including Size, Weight, Power, and Cost, to determine effective, scalable architectural solutions.
  • Translate high-level architectures into detailed subsystem and component specifications, establishing requirements and interface control documents.
  • Conduct system-level testing, analyse test data, and support complex root-cause analysis of failures to drive rapid design iterations.
  • Collaborate daily with software architects, hardware developers, and artificial intelligence engineers to ensure system-level alignment and technical consistency across disciplines.
  • Identify emerging trends and propose structural solutions to enhance physical defence systems and their integration with artificial intelligence capabilities.

Desired Qualifications

  • German language skills are a strong asset.

About the Company

Helsing

AI software and autonomous defense systems

Helsing develops AI software and autonomous systems for democratic governments, covering air, land, sea, and sub-surface domains. Its software combines data from drones, radar, satellites, cameras and other sensors to create a real-time operational picture that helps commanders detect threats and move quickly, while keeping key decisions under human control. Its product lineup includes AI-enabled strike drones (HF-1 / HX-2) for contested environments and underwater surveillance systems (SG-1 Fathom) for critical infrastructure. Helsing collaborates with European armed forces and partners such as Saab, Airbus and Kongsberg, and has supported Ukraine since 2022. The company has raised large rounds of funding, with a focus on expanding AI platforms and autonomous systems for partner nations. Its goal is to provide robust, field-ready AI-powered platforms that enable faster, safer decision-making and action in defense while maintaining governance over critical choices.
