Requirements
  • Familiarity with clinical program administration and graduate medical education is required.

Responsibilities
  • The Chair works collaboratively with the Chancellor and Executive Dean, Associate Deans, other Department Chairs, Program Directors, and faculty on the medical school curriculum.
  • The Chair teaches medical students, residents, and allied health professionals.
  • The Chair supports the Residency and Fellowship Program Directors and complies with the standards of the Office of Graduate Medical Education.
  • The Chair maintains accreditation of all educational programs.
  • The Chair promotes the recruitment, retention, and mentoring of academic faculty within the Department.
  • The Chair assures continuing faculty development activities in education.
  • The Chair provides annual summative evaluation and oversight of all faculty within the department, particularly regarding the promotion and tenure cycle, as well as ongoing formative evaluation and feedback.
  • The Chair determines the qualifications and assesses the competency of all department members and coordinates and provides oversight of medical staff credentialing, re-credentialing, and privileging.
  • The Chair collaborates with clinical services to support a multidisciplinary approach to patient care.
  • The Chair ensures that patient care delivery and clinical standards are consistent with current professional guidelines, accreditation standards, and the mission, vision, and values of WVU Medicine.
  • The Chair monitors clinician, referring provider, patient, and employee satisfaction in accordance with organizational goals and guidelines while maintaining clinical excellence.
  • The Chair ensures the practice of evidence-based medicine and optimal patient care by clinicians.
  • The Chair collaborates with the Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer to develop and monitor continuous performance improvement.
  • The Chair participates in clinical service.
  • The Chair participates in scholarly activities.
  • The Chair enables faculty to develop and enhance academic and professional development.
  • The Chair provides mentoring for academic, scholarly, and professional growth.
  • The Chair encourages and rewards grant funding in education and training, basic, translational, and clinical research.
  • The Chair seeks interdisciplinary collaboration in research and scholarly activities.
  • The Chair supervises and mentors faculty research focused on practice-changing contributions and scientific importance, with a focus on high-impact journals and national and international presentations.
  • The Chair mentors faculty and promotes development in voluntary national academic organizations.
  • The Chair oversees departmental finances related to the clinical practice and educational mission.
  • The Chair creates and executes an appropriate departmental budget with the assistance of departmental and hospital administrators and other key personnel.
  • The Chair provides recommendations regarding equitable compensation for faculty and staff working in radiology and updates them regularly.
  • The Chair makes recommendations for annual capital improvements and monitors future fiscal needs of the department.
  • The Chair oversees clinical operations, capital purchases, and compliance.
  • The Chair contributes to the planning, implementation, and evaluation of clinical services.
  • The Chair works with leadership to monitor physician productivity, quality, access, and clinician, patient, and staff satisfaction.
  • The Chair serves as spokesperson for the department, advises leadership, and acts as an agent for implementing hospital policies and procedures.
  • The Chair coordinates with Administration, Chairs, and Medical Directors to optimize access and delivery of care to patients.
  • The Chair ensures that clinical care is consistent with current professional standards and the mission, vision, and values of WVU Medicine.
  • The Chair collaborates with quality and compliance officers on performance improvement projects, turnaround time, sentinel event reports, key performance indicators, and established metrics and dashboards.
  • The Chair participates in medical staff affairs.
  • The Chair seeks collaborative relationships with clinicians and administrators at system hospitals.
  • The Chair maintains active professional relationships with former graduates practicing in the state and region.
  • The Chair participates in local and regional leadership forums and societies or delegates these responsibilities.
  • The Chair remains active in local, state, regional, and national professional societies.
  • The Chair participates in active and ongoing strategic planning for the department, congruent with that of the School of Medicine, the Health Sciences Center, the University, and WVU Medicine.
  • The Chair assists in setting personal and departmental goals with measurable outcomes.
  • The Chair participates in the Council of Chairs and Executive Council of the School of Medicine.
  • The Chair serves on committees and councils as assigned by the Dean, Chief Medical Officer, hospital CEO, other ranking officials, or as peer elected.
  • The Chair promotes and participates in philanthropy endeavors on behalf of the Department, School of Medicine, and University.
  • The Chair performs other duties as assigned.
Desired Qualifications
  • At least ten (10) years of clinical practice experience and a minimum of three (3) years administrative experience in an academic medical center are preferred.
  • A letter of interest is strongly encouraged.
