Requirements
  • Ability to follow and understand verbal communications and written procedures, and to communicate verbally with others.
  • Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
  • Must be able to lift 20 pounds occasionally and frequently lift or carry objects weighing up to 10 to 20 pounds; walk, stand, climb ladders, push, pull, and perform manual dexterity and other listed physical activities.
  • Must work around human body fluids, disease, infection, laboratory chemicals, and hazardous materials, and wear common protective or safety equipment.
  • Must be able to speak clearly and reason and express ideas to groups of people; hearing and vision must be normal or corrected to within normal range.
  • Must be able to perform the duties with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Physical presence onsite is essential.
Responsibilities
  • Clean assigned areas daily following the eight-step cleaning procedure or other appropriate procedures, including occupied and discharged patient rooms, walls, doors, ceilings, furnishings, windows, and floors.
  • Dust, damp mop, and vacuum floors; vacuum and spot-clean carpets; collect waste and clean waste receptacles and the compactor area; collect soiled linen and distribute clean linen; move and arrange furniture and equipment after cleaning.
  • Request cleaning supplies and equipment as needed, return unused supplies to the housekeeping closet, clean carts and equipment, and keep items orderly.
  • Operate mechanical and electrical cleaning equipment, including buffers, wringers, scrubbers, and vacuums.
  • Report broken furniture and equipment needing repair to supervisors immediately.
  • Clean and service assigned building areas, including medication storage areas, according to established procedures and schedules.
  • Maintain secured access to designated medication storage areas and immediately alert a nursing or clinical supervisor if medications are found in an unlocked, unsupervised area.
  • Provide training for new hires and others assigned to the units.
  • Maintain performance, patient and employee satisfaction, and financial standards outlined in the performance evaluation.
  • Perform compliance requirements outlined in the Employee Handbook and adhere to DCH Behavioral Standards and DCH Health System policies and procedures.
  • Perform essential job functions in a manner that ensures safety, and identify and take appropriate action to reduce unsafe practices, risks, and hazards for patients, visitors, and employees.
  • Use electronic mail, time and attendance software, learning management software, and the intranet.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
