About the job
- A bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a similar field, or equivalent experience.
- At least 3 years of experience working with 5-axis machine tool controls, with demonstrated experience in Laser Drilling, Cutting, or Welding, Laser Ablation, or EDM Hole Drilling.
- Strong understanding of the principles, operation, and kinematics of 5-axis machine tools.
- Ability to interpret, manipulate, and apply complex 3D geometry.
- Experience developing machining applications for complex components, preferably in aerospace or industrial gas turbine environments.
- Familiarity with Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and Human-Machine Interface (HMI) software.
- Must be a U.S. citizen or Green Card holder due to customer facility access requirements.
- Willingness to travel 50–75% to customer locations.
- Support trials and programming improvements through software and applications modifications for particular parts and processes.
- Manage offsite software activity using a standard project management method, including scoping, estimating engineering hours, conducting reviews, providing regular project updates and hours reports, testing at the Rock Hill facility when possible, and delivering and training.
- Lead and support New Product Introduction activities, transitioning customer products from initial concept and feasibility through validated production-ready processes.
- Collaborate with customers and internal teams to achieve technical requirements and performance targets.
- Develop and optimize machine tools and processes utilizing Laser Ablation, Laser Drilling, and Electro-Discharge Machining (EDM), and support future product and process development.
- Improve existing processes to enhance quality, efficiency, repeatability, and cost-effectiveness.
- Drive continuous machine and process improvements by implementing solutions, standardizing best practices, and enhancing productivity to meet industry trends and customer needs.
- Demonstrate machine tools and machining processes to customers and provide technical training as required.
- Provide applications support for machine tool contracts and subcontract production programs.
- Provide hands-on manufacturing engineering support to production teams.
- Assist with the preparation, analysis, and interpretation of metallurgical samples.
- Develop technical documentation, reports, and work instructions to support applications development and process transfer.
- Maintain compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory requirements.
- Experience developing machining applications for complex components in aerospace or industrial gas turbine environments is preferred.
