Requirements
  • A bachelor's degree in a biological science or related scientific field from an accredited college or university and one year of Medical Technologist experience, or an equivalent combination of education, certification, training, and experience.
  • A valid and current Florida Clinical Laboratory Technologist license in Immunohematology or Blood Banking is required in Florida; other Florida licenses may be required in certain specialty laboratories.
  • If working in a state without laboratory personnel licensure requirements, the employee must meet current Clinical Laboratory Improvement Amendments requirements for high-complexity testing.
  • Knowledge of technical procedures and governmental regulations.
  • Ability to organize work for timely completion and follow complex oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English effectively.
  • Skill in operating office equipment.
  • Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Ability to travel up to 10% of the time.
  • Ability to commute using personal transportation.
  • Ability to report to work during a disaster, public health emergency, or other catastrophic event.
  • Ability to periodically perform moderately physically demanding work involving lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling objects and materials weighing up to 50 pounds, with assistance or proper equipment for significant weight.
  • Ability to perform work involving climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, or prolonged sitting or standing.
  • Ability to work in environments with potential exposure to inclement weather, atmospheric elements, pathogenic substances, and blood-borne pathogens.
Responsibilities
  • Accept, verify, and process incoming blood, blood components, or samples.
  • Perform and interpret testing procedures on donor and patient specimens, blood products, and repeat tests where appropriate.
  • Maintain and monitor required written or electronic records and files.
  • Perform quality control, equipment maintenance, and calibration as required.
  • Identify and resolve potential patient-care issues related to transfusion.
  • Provide oversight and direction to Lab Assistants and Lab Technicians as required.
  • Use the computer system to obtain necessary data and record test results.
  • Monitor each testing process on an ongoing basis to identify errors or potential problems leading to errors.
  • Participate in an on-call rotation.
  • Perform the essential functions of the Lab Technician and Lab Assistant as needed.
  • Work five days per week on third shift, from 11:00 p.m. to 7:30 a.m., including rotating weekends and holidays.
