Requirements
  • A Bachelor's Degree in Business and/or Health Care Administration is required.
  • Four to six years of experience in managed care negotiations and managed care network operations is required.
  • One to three years of experience in leading complex payer negotiations and mediation is required.
  • Maintain current knowledge of changes in federal and New York State regulations governing the provision and reimbursement of medical services, including federal and New York State value-based payment roadmaps.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of patients and Albany Med Health System contracts.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Responsibilities
  • Make data-supported recommendations and support the development of Albany Medical Center and Integrated Delivery System contracting strategies.
  • Negotiate with established and new commercial and governmental payers as assigned.
  • Conduct economic and risk assessments in collaboration with Corporate System Finance.
  • Ensure implementation and operational performance of contracts consistent with negotiated terms.
  • Prepare contract proposals for internal review and consideration.
  • Prepare for and conduct meetings, negotiations, presentations, and other organizational functions as assigned.
  • Coordinate operational input across Practice and Hospital Administration, Billing, Finance, Information Systems, Utilization Management, Quality, Credentialing, managed care organizations, payers, and related entities.
  • Assist with developing reporting instruments covering contract performance parameters and profit/loss comparisons by service.
  • Develop payer profiles covering membership, market share, financials, products, and volumes.
  • Evaluate current contracts and develop new contracting opportunities focused on value-based payment under federal and New York State reform for ambulatory medical and health services.
  • Review proposals and make data-informed recommendations for internal consideration before negotiations.
  • Negotiate contract parameters and methodologies and prepare and present proposals representing the organization's position.
  • Evaluate and develop proposals by identifying opportunities and risks.
  • Collaborate with Legal, Quality, Compliance, and other departments to ensure contract compliance and implementation capabilities.
  • Review the terms and performance of established contract portfolios and recommend methodology changes.
  • Mediate contract disputes to resolution and ensure internal and external compliance with contract provisions.
  • Monitor contract renewal dates and coordinate timely contract analyses with Finance and other stakeholders.
  • Review risks and work with Financial Reporting to ensure appropriate modeling; understand modeling parameters and report on them.
  • Provide contract education to system-wide departments, including executive leadership, Finance, Billing, Quality, Clinical Departments, and Practice Administration.
  • Prepare narratives, overheads, handouts, presentations, and meeting materials, ensuring accurate reporting for documentation and archiving.
  • Collect contract-performance data independently, analyze it, complete spreadsheets with comparative and economic assessments, and report findings.
  • Work with Data Analytics to develop routine reporting instruments.
  • Gather current data on managed care organizations, including financials, membership, physician networks, and current or future marketing plans.
  • Prepare and present reporting instruments for Albany Medical Center Health System.
  • Contribute to system-wide and interdepartmental relationships and cooperate in resolving conflicts.
  • Perform special projects and assignments requested by the Director or Vice President for Payer Contracting.
  • Assist with Integrated Delivery System affiliate contracting processes related to payer contracting.
