Hitachi Energy and Eve join forces to power electric air taxis. Hitachi Energy has signed a memorandum of understanding with Eve Air Mobility (NYSE: EVEX) to jointly develop the electrical infrastructure required to support large-scale urban air mobility, as the emerging electric vertical takeoff and landing (eVTOL) industry moves toward commercialization. The collaboration will focus on enabling vertiport operations by addressing key infrastructure challenges, including grid connectivity, power availability, and high-power charging systems for electric aircraft. Hitachi Energy will contribute its Grid-eMotion charging platform and expertise in grid integration and power electronics, while Eve will provide its eVTOL aircraft and urban air mobility ecosystem expertise. The companies also plan to evaluate the reuse of retired aircraft batteries as stationary energy storage systems, a move aimed at improving the sustainability and efficiency of urban air mobility infrastructure. The agreement further includes joint business planning and customer engagement efforts intended to accelerate deployment of global eVTOL charging networks. The partnership comes as the urban air mobility sector works to overcome one of its biggest hurdles: ensuring that vertiports can reliably support frequent, high-power charging while integrating new electricity demand into existing grids. Eve Air Mobility, which is backed by Brazilian aerospace manufacturer Embraer, expects to certify its electric aircraft and begin commercial operations in 2028. The company says it has accumulated letters of intent for roughly 2,700 eVTOL aircraft, reflecting growing interest from airlines, helicopter operators and mobility providers. The agreement also aligns with Hitachi Energy's broader investment strategy. The company has committed more than $9 billion to expand research and development, manufacturing capacity, engineering resources and strategic partnerships aimed at supporting electrification and grid modernization worldwide. The establishment of the local energy storage subsidiary is not a short-term tactical layout, but a strategic move based on Eve Energy's solid business foundation accumulated in Australia over time. In terms of business cooperation, Eve Energy entered into a partnership with Australia's leading energy storage integrator EVO Power in 2025, securing a five-year long-term energy storage system order with a total scale of 2.2 GWh. EcoJoule Energy has teamed up with Hitachi Energy, a global leader in electrification, and battery manufacturer EVE Energy to launch a new industry-leading sub-5 MW battery energy storage system (BESS) that will help alleviate network constraints and maximise existing and new consumer energy resources (CER). EcoSTORE MEGA is engineered for both grid-following and grid-forming applications and integrates EVE Energy's 5 MWh MR Giant LFP battery containers with Hitachi Energy's WD4 power conversion system and centralised power plant controller. This architecture enables precise active and reactive power control for utility-scale projects. The system is built around a standard 4.98 MW/5 MWh block architecture that can support a range of energy durations using a common PCS platform. This modular approach allows developers and utilities to scale capacity over time while maintaining consistent performance across sites. The modular system has been designed and integrated in Australia to meet the operational, regulatory and environmental requirements of local electricity networks. The system combines Hitachi Energy's bi-directional power conversion systems and control technology with high-efficiency lithium iron phosphate battery containers from EVE Energy. The EcoSTORE MEGA will allow network operators to alleviate network constraints on high-voltage feeders and substations, enable more CER connections, and reduce reliance on large-scale generation solutions, which are facing high costs and social challenges. EcoJoule Energy Founder and CEO Dr Mike Wishart said the partnerships reflected the importance of combining globally proven technology with strong local engineering and integration capability. Hitachi Energy expands in Tamil Nadu. The $105 M investment will support HVDC manufacturing, R&D expansion and around 1,000 skilled jobs by Transformer Magazine July 8, 2026 India, Tamil Nadu: Hitachi Energy has signed an agreement to invest approximately $105 M (Rs 1,000 crore) in Tamil Nadu over the next three to five years, strengthening its presence in advanced power technology and grid modernisation. The investment will cover two key locations: the expansion of Hitachi Energy Technology Services' Global Technology and Innovation Centre (GTIC) in Porur, Chennai, and the addition of a new manufacturing line at Hitachi Energy India's existing facility in Chengalpattu. According to the state government, the project is expected to create around 1,000 high-skilled technology jobs. The new manufacturing line will produce semiconductor-based equipment used in HVDC systems, which support long-distance power transmission and modern electricity grids. A Guidance TN official said the additional line would be established within the existing Chengalpattu facility, alongside the site's current HVDC valve manufacturing operations. Hitachi Energy already has a strong footprint in Tamil Nadu through its Chennai GTIC and Chengalpattu plant. The company said the latest investment further reinforces the state's role as a centre for advanced power technologies. The announcement also reflects Tamil Nadu's growing focus on high-technology manufacturing, research, engineering and power electronics. The state has been positioning itself as a destination for global capability centres and clean-energy-related industrial development. The Porur centre serves as a global technology and innovation hub for Hitachi Group, while the Chengalpattu facility manufactures power and energy equipment for both domestic and export markets.
Hitachi Energy wins Fingrid transformer deal. Seven 400 MVA, 400 kV power transformers will support Finland's grid expansion and security of supply by Transformer Magazine June 29, 2026 Finland: Hitachi Energy has signed an agreement with Fingrid, Finland's transmission system operator, to supply seven large power transformers for the Finnish electricity grid. Each transformer will have a capacity of 400 MVA and operate at 400 kV. The contract also includes an option for two additional units. Deliveries are scheduled between 2029 and 2032 to Fingrid substations across Finland. The transformers will be manufactured at Hitachi Energy's new transformer factory in the Vaasa region. The facility, due for completion in 2027, is expected to double Finland's transformer production capacity and bring large power transformer manufacturing back to the region. "This contract marks an important milestone for our new facility, Hitachi Energy Park, launching large-scale power transformer production that also significantly supports Finland's energy security," said Matti Vaattovaara, Managing Director of Hitachi Energy Finland. Fingrid's grid development plan for 2026-2035 includes investments of around $5.9 B (€5.2 B) to strengthen Finland's electricity transmission capacity. The programme is intended to support industrial electrification, new customer connections and reliable access to clean electricity. "Our investments in the transmission grid are at a historically high level, and large power transformers play a key role in enabling industrial electrification and new customer connections," said Timo Kiiveri, Executive Vice President at Fingrid. The 400 kV transformers will support the safe and efficient transmission of electricity over long distances, helping reinforce Finland's grid reliability, security of supply and wider energy transition.
